The long-term extensions we’ve given some players, along with targeting C graders from other clubs in positions where we already have depth — and then needing to give up draft capital to bring them in — are two areas our list management team really needs to get on top of over the next couple of years.
The draft work is finally looking really good, which makes the contrast with some of our contract decisions and trade targets even more noticeable.

Martin gives me Mikel Arteta vibes. He genuinely loves Essendon. Seems very thankful that we were the club that gave him his shot. Whether it works out for him whilst he’s playing here he just seems like the type to always think of the Bombers as his club. Very endearing as a supporter to players like that. I hope he comes back next season and hits the ground running.

Nervous on the 2031 timeframe if honest. But if Merrett and Ridley go then he becomes also fairly critical if healthy. Calculated risk his knee will be fine from here.
Was thinking who are now our best players. Is Martin close to our best if all healthy and firing?

I didnt realise he was still only 25.
I know some are unhappy with the extension given his injuries but at his age and the fact that hes an elite player I think every club would have made the same decision.
Make no mistake about it, Martin is an A grader and with Merrett leaving he is now our best player.

He is young and yes I believe our best player.
Acl injuries are not the death sentence they once were and by all accounts he is being very diligent with his rehab.

To be fair it wasnt a back to back fully healed reconstruction.
It was a freak accident that happened while his ligament was still repairing itself.
