#40 - Zak Johnson

Clearly had a change of role this week as he went from 28 possessions last week to 9 this week. We are missing a trick if we are not trying to get it in his hands.

Is this about Johnson ? He runs a 6 minute 2k. He’s an elite runner.

They will both be back in after the bye, I hope Zak doesn’t get nudged out for them I’ve loved his progression - even though last night he wasn’t as strong.

I agree - I’d move Zak into Lual’s spot and drop Lual to avoid dropping Zak. Long term that role (or something like it) will be more his go anyway IMO. Not sure what his tank is like?

Agree.

Zak has all the attributes to become an elite player, we need to prioritise his development.

He was ordinary last night. Even his kicking was off.

I thought it was his best defensive game he has played at either level this year. Good for his development to play a lock down role.

Yes he will be a distributor going fwd but he does need development on the defensive end.

Totally agree. He was able to shut down a few inside 50 opportunities by spoiling the opposition. I thought it was the best we’ve seen of his defensive game. Sometimes the role of a defender is to just defend and attack less.

He struggled to get into the game and seemed to lack a bit of energy last night. He should play seniors for the rest of the season in my opinion, but I’d not be at all surprised if he was out after the bye with three or four other defenders fit again. Really hope he’s not pushed out, there’s a really good development opportunity here.

A few more games like last night and he will lose his spot

Lack of energy is probably right so young off a 5 days break - the same for all these guys who are just starting. Who did he actually play on last night?

Drop gresh, play lual as a pressure half forward, Clarke back to the wing.

McGrath Reid prior
Roberts rids Johnson

Redman

If McKay is back too we should leave out one of Redman and prior

Funnily enough i was encouraged with Johnson last night. Not worried that his disposals we’re well down… that will come comfortably with more experience and fitness. I was more wondering if he could be defensively sound and last night he had 2-3 really good moments that gave me some comfort that this side of his game will be fine in time.

Even went backward into the pack a few times bravely

Got absolutely crunched doing it late. Got up and went again

what a brave call

Yep, he is a real goer. Those calling him to be dropped are mental.

Wow - source of info for this? That would win at many clubs…

You play him for the rest of the year no questions asked.

I came away thinking the same thing.

He also didn’t seem to go into his shell like some of his more experienced team mate do
