#41 Saad El-Hawli - thru 2025

I agree it was handled very well, with just the right register of informality and was inclusive of many of the family who were all made to feel welcome.

Oh. I’ve had a look and you’re right. He is a right footer.
I thought he’s a left footer.

Those two scrubbers were perplexing then.

I think Saad can be a little too cute with it sometimes, if he keeps it simple then he’ll be a gun. Idm as he’s trying to take the game on but he’ll learn from it I’m sure, he’s got the right attitude.

Article on news.com.au with Dunstall leading the outcry that the footy world is up in arms over Port making their debutant the sub. " Should be a rule that you can’t be sub in your first game because it’s too big and occasion". Bombers never got a mention for once.

Pretty sure Houli mentioned that their cultures also make exceptions and adjustments for things like physically demanding jobs which could jeopardise their health

I’m almost certain he’s right footed and very one sided. Is disposal either by hand or foot isn’t amazing and needs work

Just he happy the afl got a mention on that site outta their Sydney hq and saturation nrl coverage.

Or maybe the coaches could…
You know…
Choose to scrap the sub next time.
They voted for it a few years ago and wanted to keep it.
Did it again this past pre-season and wanted to keep it.

Just play 5 on the bench and let whatever issue they have with it go. The interchange restrictions will stop it from being used and abused.

Yep.
My error.
I thought he was a left footer. I haven’t seen him scuff his kicks like that.
I think he’ll be fine. He just probably tried running too fast and forgot to slow down somewhat before kicking. He get used to the rhythm that works for him.

I’m glad someone finally mentioned this.

I’d prefer a bigger bench than having the sub. But if the coaches want it then they must see the benefits.

The coaches want the sub because there is a biased thinking that when there is an injury, you still have an even number on the bench and on the field as the other team (even if there’s 5 minutes of assessment thrown in there).
I suspect if there’s an extra bench player, that the bench changes cap will be revised as well. So once coaches get used to a particular rotation, there will be issues when you’re short of bench players due to injury.

I thought the scrubber was almost on purpose, a chaos ball which gave Kako an advantage over a high ball against a taller opponent, he picked it up with ease hand balled to Martin and he kicked truly.

Agreed, he’s too new to have learnt that we only kick above the heads of small forwards in a contest.

I think the coaches want the bigger bench, the AFL wants the sub.

in a game of momentum, all you need is a spark, and Saad has capacity to do that.

I don’t for a second think, it was on purpose. It was a poor decision in the end.
Martin was free to the right of Kako and an easier kick and more in view. Martin had a tonne of space free there.
But we got the result we needed so it came off well in the end.

As far as I am aware this is correct
Having the sub rule allows him not to break his fasting.
I’m pretty sure, if you stop fasting for one day, you have to make up the day missed after Ramadan finishes and before the next one arrives.
