#41 Saad El-Hawli - thru 2025

Glad he came in well deserved

Hayes must be next must against Dees

That’s correct. But only half way there depending on how devout a muslim you are.
If it is for good reason (illness, travel or something else like that) you can make it up.
If you deliberately break the fast, you either have to fast for 60 consecutive days or feed 60 poor people.
If you break the fast accidentally, your fast can remain valid.

A lot of it is up to the individual and their family / friends who stay with him. He can take it as seriously as he wants. I’d say given he’s intent on fasting and how serious some muslims take fasting during Ramadan, that work reasons is not a valid reason to stop fasting.
In fact, when I spent a bit of time in Dubai during Ramadan, it was the worst time to seek any kind of support / services because muslims generally put their fasting during Ramadan ahead of their work role.

I checked with ChatGPT…

Missing a fast due to work—such as being a professional athlete who needs to drink during the day—is generally notconsidered a valid reason in Islamic rulings. However, there are some exceptions and allowances:

1. If the Work Poses a Genuine Hardship or Health Risk

  • If fasting causes severe physical harm or dehydration due to extreme exertion, then a person may be excused from fasting for that day.
  • In this case, they must make up the missed fast (qada) later when they are able.

2. Strategies for Managing Fasting as an Athlete or Physically Demanding Worker

  • Adjust training schedules to avoid peak heat/exertion.
  • Stay hydrated and eat nutrient-dense meals during suhoor (pre-dawn meal).
  • Reduce intensity or workload if possible during Ramadan.

3. If the Work is Optional vs. Necessary for Livelihood

  • If a job is necessary for survival (e.g., laborers, farmers, construction workers in extreme heat), scholars allow delaying the fast when needed.
  • If the job is optional, then the general expectation is to try to fast and only break it if absolutely necessary, making up the missed days later.

I get the feeling this wouldn’t be such an issue if Clarko was head coach…

It did watching the game I was tuned in and out watching it not really caring.
Then Bang on comes Saad and it was like drinking a shot of rocket fuel and adrenaline, all of a sudden the game was on the crowd was involved and we turned on as a team

That chase from Rioli on Martin was barely a token effort. Didn’t even try breaking out of second gear.

Exactly felt the same, overall the game was VFL standard, with massive problems all over the ground, im not expecting more than 3&4 wins this season, however Saad sparked the fans which in turn sparked the team

Mental issues been far too long within the walls of Essendon, just too much weakness in this area and we lack the killer instinct oh well we won so did the dogs happy weekend

Defs the type of player that will benefit from the more open play of AFL imo. Keep him in and let him learn the craft at this level.

Tell me about it, along with fans blowing smoke up the players you know what because they played one good quarter as a team.

Then it is a week of celebration for Eid.

Doubt El-Hawli will go overboard

Bah ! Pußies ! Two on the bench, one use only, is more than enough.

Back to the good old days, Perce? Should probably forget this namby-pamby no hits to the head stuff too.

l am no fan of BT in commentary, but credit where it is due, watching the replay he not only gets understandably excited about this passage of player, but quite rightly calls it for what it was electrifying, the moment the game was turned on its head.

Wash your mouth out.

Even if you are right.

Don’t worry. I still want BT loaded onto the commentary cannon. He can take Cornes and his blatant PA bias with him. It’s funny how Cornes had very little to say in the second half.

Hah! Let ā€˜em wear cyclists’ crash helmets if they can’t take a belt to the bonce.

I still have nightmares of those little Fitzroy blokes in bicycle helmets running rings around us in the early eighties.

Mark Howard commentated the Kayo telecast which I guess is fox footy, would take BT over that wanker any day.

Cornes has been ultra critical of Port for years. I don’t see the bias. He sticks the boot into Ken whenever he gets the chance.
