#42 - Jayden Nguyen

Commentators could never say Giansiracusa or Prestigiacomo properly, so they’ve got no f-ing hope with this!

Actually I think to say his name correctly you need to be facing due south of the sun at 12.47 pm on the day of the vernal equinox, while closing your eyes and clenching your left fist at precisely a strength equivalent to 15.7lb of pressure, then open your mouth and start enunciating “NEW” as the first summer bird passes over the location of the sun, and then immediately start enunciating “WIN”, at 12.47 and 4 seconds, but only on a Sunday.

Just asked my Vietnamese mate coz I’m sure I’ve discussed this with him before and this is what he says.

What are we hang we about

The kid has an inherent toughness and balance to his game. We need more of this.

Brad can’t wait to select him as sub

3 weeks as a sub and then punted to the VFL

He would be a decent sub, could come on forward or defence with pace and aggression.

I don’t know why anyone gives significant credence to anything any recruiter says just after a draft. They will all talk up the kids they’ve just taken, no matter what.

I think they mean hangry.

I haven’t eaten dinner yet.

I just think they are nice people who realise that most of the people in Oz don’t speak Vietnamese life is busy and they aren’t going to get hung up on names being mispronounced.
So my friend probably gave me a version she knew I could say easily.
Darwin has a population of 4th or 5th generation Chinese whose names have been totally anglicised with first names becoming surnames - they don’t care .

Nguyen is like Smith and if you guys are only learning how to say Ng names Ngow where have you been living.

Let’s just call him Jayden smith and be done with it.

He’s my favorite of the VFL group. Just cracks in and wins his own footy. Been surprised at his neat kicking too.

Concussion shield?

So it’s pronounced jay-den? Man I’ve been getting his name wrong all this time!

I don’t believe he’d notice a concussion.

‘You and me’

Now say it without the ‘me.’ Mightn’t be technically correct but the same could be said for heaps of other instances. Just go with the above. It’s close enough.

Now, can we please get back to whinging about why he isn’t in the team?
