So a decision as to whether he stays on our list? I assume if the answer is “yes” then technically we don’t actually have to do anything - i.e. he is already in our list, so all we have to do is have him sign a contract at some stage.
Is that right?
From my understanding, since he is OOC and has announced his retirement, if we do nothing he has essentially delisted himself and cannot play anywhere next year.
If we offer him a contract, he stays on the list.
If we choose to delist him, then he can walk to Freo next year.
Regardless of what we do, it has to be sorted by Thursday
We’d still effectively delist him via him retiring and coming off our list (delisted) at one of the remaining list lodgements.
Can still train on and go to Freo during SSP period, we would not be able to do the same for him however. So it’s be recontracted now only for us.
It’s not delisting him if it’s a retirement though, as the decision was his - I’m fairly sure the fact we would have to technically remove him from the list because he is retired, doesn’t mean he is considered delisted
eg, imagine if you had a JHF situation where a player ‘retires’ mid year just to get ‘delisted’ by the club at end of year, and then can technically walk to any club they want via the SSP for nothing

Actually the bottom dot point explains it. Appears that if a player had retired/delisted themsleves would need to be off a list 1yr to then have eligibility to be an SSP

I’d love to have him back, in the right nick. But maybe with a new coach, wider football department, and now Freo’s lack of interest, we’re going down the path of SSP or rookie listing him?
I also could be completely wrong regarding the rules and eligibility of SSP or having him on the rookie list.
Would enable them to give it the maximum amount of time for him to prove he’s back on track and committed to the program required.
We can’t SSP him or offer him a rookie contract off coming off senior listing him without delisting and having him go through the drafts to then be selected as a rookie which leaves him open to be taken by others
He’ll get a 1yr senior list contract extension IMO
Maybe already done and just not publically known, maybe it’s just being held over to have him prove up until whatever is last viable list lodgement time frame
