#45 Alec Waterman - thighning off

Haven’t had quads like that in the club since Mal Michael

Such a great story this one.
Has had to come from a way back and doesn’t look anywhere near as conditioned as he could be but he’s just a footballer that knows his way around out there.

Supposedly endurance was a strength of his as a junior and as we know, he was predominantly a midfielder prior to his illness at West Coast so you’d have to be optimistic that he’s got quite a bit of improvement to come yet.
If he can provide that forward target and forward half pressure for us and also start impacting on more contests up the field then we’ve found a real steal here. Not quite the athlete but he’s reminding me a bit of Crameri.

Looking like he is so good they are already updating his jumper number.

I just have this feeling that we’ve found the big bodied midfielder we’ve been looking for. Give him a couple of seasons in the afl system to recover his fitness base, got yourself a capable body to throw through the clearance rotations.

I have no doubt he will have rotations through the middle at some point.

Waterman was the reason we got out to a great start in the first quarter, was involved in everything.

Unfortunately went missing after that.

I thought he was in for a big game after the first quarter.

Bloody hell, just get him the ball near 60 and let him do the rest!

Having Waterman forward along with Hooker and possibly Ambrose in a few weeks and Stringer (Tippa at their feet) all of these types of players are very capable 1:1 players around initial contest. Tippa and Watermens second efforts were good last night.

Waterman seems to have good hands, can make space and lead into space and big enough to hold space and block.

This allows Jones, Perkins and hopefully at some stage this year Eyre to have greater impact as developing forwards

This allows snelling and smith to do there work up the ground rather than having to do both fall of the ball stuff and linking up with chains in midfield.

Is he a little slow? That’s my only question. Cos if we give him 2 chances inside 55 per game we get two goals. Just wondering whether there is a slight downside there. Haven’t seen him live yet.

Fwd line still an issue. String looks good, the rest all have weaknesses that can be exploited (Hooker and Waterman slow, Jones undersized, Smith small etc.)

The ball is going to bounce back out of f50 more and more as the season wears on, and it becomes harder for the midfielders to get into the f50 and try overload the oppo defense.

Yes he is a little slow. But every player has a short coming.

Our forwards are better than the past but still a problem.
Tippa falls over all the time and is so so annoying but his pressure acts are awesome.
Jones presents and works but is learning.
Hooker is an old soldier with lots of shrapnel in the back; cant run out of sight on a dark night but a big heart.
Smith; pencil in min one stupid 50m penalty per game. He is a dumb footballer.
Stringer our best forward but still has engine issues I think. Had a shot from 40 in the 3rd after 2/3 repeat efforts and didn’t make distance. Was blowing very hard. But a very good shot for goal.

Now Waterman has played 2 games and has 2 goals per game average and 2 gilt edged goal assists. That’s 4 goals. If he can return such numbers every week I don’t care how slow he is. And he has a glorious set shot no frills routine that works!! This creates confidence. And looks like he has a body that can cope with AFL. A rough diamond that might polish up very very well.

Interesting comment considering he’s given away a grand total of 1 50m penalty this season.

We are keeping our forwards much deeper than we have in past,
Waterman is a powerful player with good explosive speed but hasn’t prob got the AFL level repeat efforts (yet) It will come with more games played.

Well go back in your stats and count his 50s. 1 per game is an exaggeration but I’d bet he leads the club.
Gave away blatant 50s against Sydney and 2 against Bulldogs last year that are vivid in my mind.
Most undisciplined player at the club.
And will tackle indiscriminately in our forward line releasing pressure.
Defend him all you want he is a dumb footballer.

And he was pretty stiff with that one too, Hickey had clearly played on sideways when Smith moved.

No need to get mad at me because you get called out making ■■■■ up.

His set shot technique reminds me of Tony Lockett’s

Yes he is a little slow, but he knows his limitations. Smart player.

Since Jobe?
