Last night?
He’s had the worst ‘do’ in the entire league for a couple of years l reckon. Must have done it to win a huge bet, or else he lost one.

is he the midfield bull we need?

Not yet.
He looks good at VFL level though.
Needs another few weeks dominating in the VFL midfield.

That’s ambitious.

I’d say the gap in quality between Waterman and an AFL standard midfielder is pretty much insurmountable. Will continue to be good depth in the forward half though.

You could play him in the mid. Just tell him to straight-line every single ball, he’s bound to come off with one or two

We don’t want him to run 13 km and get 35d.
We want him to crash a few stoppages and break some opposition bones, kick a goal and get 3 clearances.

I wouldnt say insurmountable.

if it were a AFL Xbox game
Waterman lacks in fitness - which he continues to build at VFL level.
also would lack in midfield nous and synchronicity with other mids, but would help if Bryan comes in later in the year.
And he would be pushed down the pecking order so would be forced to come in as a forward, or on the bench plugging gaps, which he can do.

But I can imagine chungus in the middle flattening Selwood or Dangerfield or even just clearing a path past Menegola for parish or Merrett to get through.

If Howlett and Hocking and Barlow can forge AFL careers as mids he is a chance, he also could end up like Hardingham or Kommer.

That role isn’t really a thing though, apart from Stringer, who else in the AFL plays a role like that to the standard you have mentioned.

Would be a complete liability in the midfield

With Smith out he could fill that role perfectly with some midfield minutes.

I think this is by far the most likely outcome

I reckon hooker being in our forward line, and sometimes Wright is as much as anything limiting the chance of waterman getting more than the occasional forward opportunity. If those three were in the forward line at once it’d be treacle chasing defenders out (compared to Smith for instance being in there and offsetting Hooker/Wright)

I wonder if they are hoping he can trim slightly and get his endurance up to where some mid rotation at AFL level is plausible.

I think pre draft he was a highly rated inside mid - but Slow. So maybe a bit like Cunnington?

Maybe if/when Hooker goes the mix up forward might allow him more opportunity up there.

Thread title needs more chungus.

@westozziebomber get it done
