New coach and new CEO might have been part of the reason. That stuff was done under someone else’s watch and they have had a year to assess. Maybe that is all it comes down to, a change in direction from the new team?
I’m assuming it’s not coming out now, and that may or may not be for the best (I have no idea), but in a vacuum it appears that more comms may have helped supporters understand a change in direction.
tbf, it’s probably only ~250 -odd super-fans inhabiting this forum that knew Munkara existed and are wondering why he is gone.
I think sometimes we forget collectively on here how fringe some of the issues we are invested in are in relation to the comms the club puts out to the rank and file supporter.
Not good enough? RFK said in front of the whole team 12 months earlier he is the most skillful or talented player they have ever drafted. So obviously talented enough, maybe not committed enough or something.
to be fair the amount of self generated hyperbole coming from within the 4 walls of the EFC whenever we draft someone who isnt white, is ridiculous and cringey. I dont think we are very mature or nuanced with how we draft and nurture indigenous talent.
I wanted the kid to succeed as much as anyone. Clearly there was something that the club decided was insurmountable. It’s completely correct for the club to not publicly destroy the kid to explain the delisting. If it was obvious to the club that he wasn’t going to succeed, there’s no value for anyone in delaying the inevitable.
This can be both disappointing and the right move. We don’t and honestly shouldn’t know the details.
I’m only guessing but I’d say if Munkara did everything asked and expected of an elite sports person he’d still be at the club. That’s the only explanation that makes sense to me.
RFK: “He played some great football at school level for Westminster and with West Adelaide at the start of the year. He is a forward with excellent natural football ability, who’s just scratching the surface with what we think he can do in the future, so we just need to ensure we get a good program around him to make sure he reaches his potential.”
good program - Walla, Ryder, Rioli, Narkle, Ugle all gone.
This isn’t a particularly strong example for giving Munkara more time.
I thought he looked a mile off it. I don’t think he was ever named in the bests, and regularly went long stretches of the game without going near the ball. There is no doubt he had some special gifts when he had the ball, but getting the ball is the most fundamental skill and at that he was really poor.
