#45 Anthony “Munny” Munkara

No vanilla panic merchants or HBF’s this year!

Has potential only at this stage as do all draftees. But I wouldn’t call an 11 possession game as Dominant.

Welcome Anthony… huge admirerer of your football and skills. Just so pleased youve landed.

I cannot wait to watch AM play. I hope the club does whatever it can to help him adjust to life in Melbourne and playing in the AFL. Those highlights are incredible- most excited I’ve been about a player in a long while

That’s one of the reasons I’m chuffed how it played out. On the Cat B list, he pretty much has three years with much reduced list pressure to be ready. I think it is the best outcome both for him and the club.

I like his size. Good height, already a bit of bulk about him. With his athleticism will be a real threat around the ground. Really excited about his prospects.

the way he moves and marking style reminds me of Derek Kickett

One to watch.
Tippa has lots of mentoring to do. He’s gonna have his own tribe out at the Hangar !

This team has been light on for X factor for a while. Bringing back Walla and in Munkara, the Davey’s and even Tsatas’ burst.
Very exciting times ahead.

Part of me thinks that a key reason to get Walla back was to mentor Munkara. That would be something that would emotionally drive Walla. So even if Walla takes longer than we hope to get to afl standard again, he’ll be having a massive impact behind the scenes in helping Munkara as he adjusts to an absolutely mind blowing lifestyle change.

Agreed- it would mean a lot to all the indigenous boys to have Walla back. Even if he doesn’t get on the park much, his mentorship will be a big boon for them.

Walla can have a low possession game and literally rip sides apart, essentially being the difference between a win/loss. Munkara has a similar freak ability to just do things that 99% of players cannot. These players are match winners…and we don’t have many/if any.

He’s so tall even when doing chin ups on an invisible chin up bar his feet are still touching the ground.

Great highlights. I have been avoiding them all year to manage my disappointment if he was taken by another club.

To get him as a cat b is fantastic for us.

And as others have said, with Rioli to the board, Tippa back and the Davey’s, it all seems like we are set to turn a page.

The fact that we got the twins and Munkara and the 1st and second round selections were good ( if not the #5 pick for some (Pou in particular) ) points to a good draft for the Bombers.

Iow its not a fail for Dodoro.

My take is I think the simplest/obvious one.

Walla has 6 months out of footy, felt revilitalised travelling the country and spoke to people every where that just said it was too soon.

Obviously craves the country lifestyle. Having Munkara from the Tiwi Islands would be just another bonus.

It’s up to everyone now to make this work. Obviously a lot of it will come down to Anthony himself, he’s got to really be committed to the hard work ahead and the difficulties that he’ll face moving to Melbourne and adjusting to the demands of professional athlete life. But I hope the club, with Dean Rioli playing a key role, are ready to do everything possible to make the transition as smooth as possible and to foster an environment that makes Anthony feel supported and one that allows him to get the best out of himself.

It’d just be a heck of a shame when you’ve got a guy this talented to see him in a few years want to go home. If it works, this will be a heck of a story and he’ll be a crowd favourite not just among Essendon fans but across the competition in general.

Need to find a way to get Eddie Betts involved in the club a few days a week.

Mid this year I was done with the EFC, Mr Burns and Krusty the clown were still running his purposeful innovation, Rutten was wielding his defensive genius and Walla had quit. There was almost no reason left for me to follow the EFC anymore other than habit and community.

Now in end of the draft and trade period, we have a new coach i respect, a Chariman with passion who is at least trying something new. I was mildly enthused.

Walla returned and I started to get excited, now Munkara is on the list and I am super pumped to actually attend games to watch them both next year. I don’t care where we finish next year just as long as these two have a great time playing footy and improving together to stay at the club for many years to come.
