#45 Anthony “Munny” Munkara

I think you’re all missing the positive out of this bad news story. The message hasn’t come from Dodoro, rather it was from Daniel McPherson. Fingers crossed this is a sign Dodoro is on his way out in due course as well.

Another one gone. Pretty disappointed as he showed some signs and clearly has talent. I hope he goes well.

Delistings announcement comes from the footy manager, have done since Mahoney has been at the club

I appreciate quick, decisive evaluations of players. Whilst I wish Munkara would have made it, if it is clear that he isn’t positioned to accrue the necessary work ethic or traits to carve out a career, better to make that call as early as possible.

To be fair, i’d rather spend my time in the Tiwi Islands, than drive out to Tullamarine for work 4 times a week. That soulless dump is cursed.

What a surprise that this boring, underachieving club decided not to stay the course with this guy.

That’s my thoughts too. A pity but this club probably isn’t the right time or place for prospective project players. I suspect if his work ethic matched his potential he’d have been kept. Anything less than 100% commitment moving forward, especially for speculative projects is a pass for me. I have no knowledge of any shortcomings in his work ethic btw, just speculating from afar and providing a judgement.

Very dissapointing

Seemed to be making good progress on field albeit was coming from a long long way back.

The transition both to Melb life and also as far as commitment to cause as an AFL footy player might have been beyond him. I’d say it’s more about what he wants over us cutting him

I reckon the club would have put plenty of resources behind him but wasn’t to be

We’d all hoped he’d fill a Walla sized hole in our hearts but alas no go :frowning:

If a sign that Dodoro is on the way out is that he lost a battle to keep Munkara then the club might be more stuffed than we thought…

Would rather he lost a battle to keep Hepp.

Disgraceful decision.

Thanks for the mentorship Tippa, cya later boys.

Good grief.

Makes zero sense when you actively promote how you’re taking it slowly with him. “Decisive” at that point says more about the clubs lack of faith in its own programs

Pretty confident it was as much Munkarra wanting to return home more than anything. Cal Twomey said this was the case a few days ago. Decidion eould have been made based on discussions around what everyone felt best for him. Not understanding why people are losing their shot over this tbh.

We had a poster who said he’d spoken personally to Uptown Munk, and that Uptown wanted to stay but wouldn’t be getting a contract. Poster claimed this a couple weeks ago and seems to have been legit.

This is poor from the club.

I’m OK with this list management decision on the proviso that I see the club bringing in absolute competitors to replace him. I want whoever was in front of him on the list this year - Snelling, Guelfi, ADJ, Tex, hell, even Jayden Davey - to know there is genuine pressure for their spots irrespective of their perceived level of ‘talent’. The message should be ‘get to work or you’ll be chewed up and spat out in a year or two’.

Unfortunately, Munkara probably wanted to go home, and he wasn’t exactly knocking the door down for senior opportunity… And the good clubs at the pointy end of the year have the luxury to drop players who’ve played 83 consecutive games because there is competition for spots irrespective of ‘talent’ - ie. work ethic, training standards etc…

Glass half full, hopefully this unpopular decision works for us in the long run.

This stinks. Massively. I hope the club are protecting him by not going into the reasons behind his departure.

This, below, is from a year ago. “Developing indigenous talent” hey. Is that right? Paddy Ryder, Dean Rioli, something something …

“The club is committed to restoring our leadership position in the Indigenous community and nurturing Indigenous talent – both players and staff. We all know about the rich history Essendon has in identifying, attracting, and developing Indigenous talent and we need to build on this into the future,” Barham said.

"We need to do more to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and expertise at all levels of the club, including at board level. To that end, we will soon be appointing the club’s inaugural First Nations Board director. This is an important step for Essendon and, quite frankly, long overdue.

“This director will lead the board’s nationally focused Indigenous sub-committee to provide leadership on cultural safety and oversee our new Indigenous development program. We are looking forward to making this announcement in the coming weeks.”
