#45 Conor McKenna - Return of The McK - nope

IIRC he had an agreement with the club to return for a family wedding, club endorsed return of Connor and others to go home when the pandemic hit, as did some other clubs with their foreign recruits.

We seem to treat mental health with the greatest of respect except when it applies to Conor. Guy went through absolute hell last year.

This is the best possible scenario to bring him back. He achieved his dream the first year he was home, absolutely remarkable to win the Sam so quickly, if at all. He won’t have that lingering in the back of his head if he does decide to return.

At his best he could win games off his own boot. The new rules are tailor made for him.

If he’s got the hunger, if the Covid rules wind back next year as expected, if we are happy for him to take a visit home once in a while to keep depression / homesickness at bay…

Why wouldn’t you?

This time last year a big chunk of the fans and membership wasn’t committed to the club. Hugely hypocritical to slam Conor for it.

It was a global pandemic and a kid on the opposite side of the world removed from friends and family struggled. People need to get over it. Not saying he’s coming back but pretending last year was in anyway reflective of his professionalism and commitment is a pretty harsh viewpoint.

There was also the uncertainty of national borders at both ends closing - boom came down here in late March for exiting of citizens and PR holders.

I really think we should consider that he may also (along with so many of the other players) have not really enjoyed playing for Ess last year.
With the change in admin (especially Truck) we may find a different mindset from Conor.
He is probably worth a chance. His best is sensational.

Come back Conor and complete the second half of your dream. The club has changed and is going places. We would love to see you on the field again. Mr Excitement …Let it rip. We are looking for a talented speedy half forward who has elite disposal and tackling ability. Know anyone?:slightly_smiling_face:

Either that or he just loves ■■■■ stirring

Is he the Forward Pocket that the club is looking for?

I would rather minimize flight risks, and would prefer our players all be 100% committed rather than playing until they don’t feel like anymore and literally flying overseas for whatever period of time

Yes he’s very good and we’d love to have him but not sure having him back sets the right example for what’s expected by the club

He can come back whenever he wants…as long as he doesn’t make himself available to the ND and only to us.

Even if hes just ■■■■ stirring, hes still thought about it.

Nah, you said “coming back was something he’d considered”.

Just because he thought about taking the ■■■■ and trolling a few people (if that’s what he was doing), it doesn’t mean it’s on his mind in the way you were suggesting.

We’ll even have the family of aggressive possums removed as well.

And that’s why I said we need to make sure he’s committed and to set up a plan to manage his mental health.

If he’s not committed, then he doesn’t come back. But I find it astounding that we shouldn’t do the due diligence.

It means its on his mind, which is a step closer to coming back then not thinking about the possibility at all.

And JD.

To be clear, my biggest concern with Conor coming back is that the homesickness was more substantial than FOMO linked to playing Gailic. If he signs up for us and ends back in the same dark place he described when he left, then that’s not a price anyone should pay. He was in full depression mode, that critically needs to be avoided.

If enough has changed in the world health situation, the club vibe, in Conor’s list of life goals, then you have an honest conversation with a 1 year contract.

And if everything doesn’t feel right for either party, you don’t do it.

Congratulations Connor, well deserved. Would love you to come back for another cup in 2025 maybe.

We’d have to improve a hell of a lot between now and in the future to hold aloft the premiership cup.
