#45 Conor McKenna - Return of The McK - nope

At the time, borders were closing all over the world, there was only a small window for the Irish players to return home. IIRC only one Irish player ( from Collingwood) opted to stay.

Then take into account a Rival Club president who praised the media for their hard stance and tough reporting on McKenna’s Covid situation.

It’s not hard for the club to Publicly condemn the media over its reporting of the story, and stand up for its players……. Even Paul Brasher has said that the club hasn’t done this nearly enough recently.

The amount of ‘HUR HUR HUR WE CANT UNDERSTAND HIM HOW FUNNY IS THAT’ was nauseating.

Even the EFC loved a joke at his expense about his accent. If McKenna was Asian/ Arab/ African/ any other group of people and they made a joke like that they would be forced to resign. Always found those jokes cheap and very distasteful.

There were plenty of cheap shots at his accent here on BBlitz as well.

Ex-AFLW player added to our VFLW list.

In saying that, we got him for nothing didnt we?

20 June 2020 (date of the positive test) as reported on SEN. XC got on channel 7 the next day and started by answering a question about Conor’s health.

 whale oil filters?

That pretty much describes Spain’s take on a Cafe con Leche…burnt

What got me is the the jokes were still coming after he’d been there for years. Surely the novelty would wear off eventually?

It’s a pain the ■■■■ when people don’t understand your accent or want to focus on it when you’re just trying to communicate. It wears thin very quickly.

It would be frustrating, but if it was bothering him that much he could have taken some lessons and learned to slow his speech down, etc. It’s not as if he didn’t understand English, he just spoke it too quickly for us, combined with his accent.

The unanswerable question is whether the commitment and disunity would’ve gotten as bad as it did if we hadn’t decided to “handover” the coaching, and leave Worsfold hanging around. A perfect storm, in a lot of ways.

There’s definitely been a silver lining to clearing decks, but players like JD (in particular) are hard to replace.

Why didn’t he think of that. Lessons to learn how to talk properly

Fantasia was always going home, it was a matter of when

Saad went for the money

McKenna went home after all covid crap, plus coach going and we looked miles off it. have to say was the right call.

Daniher stuffed the club around a lot.

I see him a bit like Ryder, favourite son, he potentially has a chance to come back after his contract is up at the Lions doubt it will be with us, Depends how Baldwin/Voss/Reid go, but think he will be a 3 club player.

You’re obviously being sarcastic, but if I was living in another country and didn’t want to repeat myself constantly, I might have to modify my speech/accent. Ben Simmons said he had to do it (mind you, the other Aussies in the NBA didn’t have to, so there might be a bit of sauce on that.)

They all had their reasons.

I think it’s naive to think all 4 getting to the same decision, within a few months of each other, had absolutely nothing to do with anything else.

I reckon it was mutual. The club has to take some responsibility for the way they dealt with Daniher’s injury management. It played a large part in his reasoning to leave.

The bloke had hardly played football for 3 years, and clearly football had become less of a priority. His professionalism to rehabilitation was poor.
