Very close to the French word for church, which in turn could be derived from the Latin
So what is the word for ‘word’ then?
focal or perhaps scéal
Focal = word.
Scéal = story.
Both the French église and the Irish eaglis are derived from the Latin ecclesia.
Stephen Taubert to the Swans. Liked him
Ray Smith to Melbourne mid-season back in the mid-seventies. A good player when we didn’t have a lot of them but we booted him out because he was perceived to be a trouble maker.
The saddest move was rugged Ronnie to collingwood. The world hasn’t been right since.
Greek - Εκκλησία (Ekklisia)
He was the players’ rep and told the board the players weren’t happy with Tuddy’s bullying. Got the boot the same night.
That’s what I heard at the time.
Tuddy got the lemonade shortly after.
26 goals to 5 in the ‘84 prelim.
And Ronnie kicked two of those five.
I know a bloke who played for Collingwood that day. His comment: “Van Der Haar - there’s no one like him”
No sympathy but that must have been hard for them.
We weren’t totally dominant that year, we’d just lost to Hawthorn, and with their finals years behind them they must have thought they were at least a rough chance and we just…destroyed them.
170-40 odd, and it was really over by quarter time.
sigh
Anyway…
I mean if there’s actually a correlation with this thread it’s that, I know this is a contentious thing to say and it rustles peoples jimmies but we really do have the cattle.
The only time a Collingwood team was ever clapped when running on for the game at Windy Hill that year. Lots of moist eyes that day. Rotten Ronny.
Like is not enough.
Rugged Ronnie was the only Pies player who put in any effort that day, he played like he gave a damn. The rest of the team were A grade rubbish.
Oh how wrong you are!!
Ridley, Delaney, Kickett say hi.
If we hadn’t lost Crameri we wouldn’t have gotten Z Merrett.

Slight correction Wim. Ronnie kicked three of those five and they were all before half time. I have dragged this photo of the half time scoreboard out many times but here it is again. I remember taking it and saying “All 20 goals scored by Essendon players!”. I did feel for Ronnie that day.
