Fair chance I’m in that photo. If memory serves we were sitting right in front of the scoreboard that day. (May have my finals confused though…)

Do you reckon the Irish equivalent of Blitz has a Conor McKenna thread bemoaning all the player’s they’ve lost to AFL?

I think we kicked 28 goals that day.

I was at the game, and whilst we gave Collingwood an absolute belting I did feel conflicted. I still had Ronnie’s number on my footy jumper.

I was devo when he left, and still think we may have been a bit more competitive had be played in the 83 GF just so the young blokes felt like they had some protection. Tim Watson may have played the whole game for a start.

Apparently the Hawks players breathed a huge sigh of relief when they saw Ronnie line up for the Reserves GF. Had the pleasure of meeting him post match at the Canfield in Perth in 2018 when we beat the Eagles. Ripper bloke. He loves the Bombers. To chat to him, Billy Duckworth and Steve Carey that night was one of the great moments for me as a Dons man.

It was a bit surprising from Sheeds. He seemed to always liked having an enforcer playing in big games.

Ronnie, Billy and Steve. They would have some stories. It would have been great to chat to them.

I never sat near that scoreboard. I’m rather deaf, and I thought it was too loud!

Ronnie played on Billy Duckworth that day. They started laughing at how bad Colliwobbles were before qtr time

Yep, Ronnie is a really nice person.

I remember the first time I met him, he had come up to play for the Wentworth FC (it was the footy club hubby and I followed whilst we lived in Mildura). I was awestruck and was stuck for words😌.

Anyway (think I’ve told this story before), hubby was player’s advocate during the time we were in Mildura. Ronnie got reported for striking. Hubby managed to get him off. He was not happy about it it as he wanted to go pig shooting.

Hubby was very happy though. :slightly_smiling_face:

Ronnie played his heart out for the Bombers when we were not a top team. The Essendon crowd just loved him and he will be always remembered as our hero. Never forget how tough and feared he was. And yes a great bloke. Boy would we love a Ronnie Andrews in this team now…

My favourite Bombers game of all time. I wasn’t there that day but I was doing somersaults listening to the broadcast. Baker and Vander going berserk in the 1st quarter, the stuff of wet dreams.

And here it is in all it’s glory…

I remember Ronnie turning up for the game at Windy Hill that year against the Bombers. The whole grandstand applauded when he was walking to the rooms with his bag. Salmon dominated him that day and Ronnie later said he couldn’t bring himself to give him a clip.

As much as I’ve enjoyed this discussion there is a history thread you know.

Baker and Watson…oh boy, that is something to watch.

Oh cool… I got a story to tell my Collingwood mates about.

I’ve said it before but this is the legendary match where the half-time PA announcement declares that “all buses to Victoria Park are leaving now”.

Other replay points to enjoy
-parts of the crowd chanting “Hawthorn”- not sure if that was Dons or Pies fans, but at least the Mayblooms put up a fight.
-Lou Richards saying he’d never seen a worse Collingwood performance, then congratulating Essendon
