#45 - Tom Edwards thru 2026

Don’t worry… you are… wrong… that is.

Haha that’s your opinion old boy, but here is statistical stand point
Weid averaged more contested marks more kicks more handballs more goals more tackles and also relieved in the rucked.
The only thing jones has over him is marks around the ground by half a mark per game.
That’s not going into individual games where jones has kicked three goals once against the Roos whilst Weid had done it four times plus a game of four goals a game of 5 goals

With age comes wisdom, apparently.

At no point during Weid’s tenure did I feel ‘damn, we might have one here.’

You are absolutely kidding yourself to suggest that Weid showed more than Jones and Baldwin.

He was very good as a key defender in that season-ending VFL game versus Willy.

That’s all I got.

Comparing goal tally of a CHB/HBF (Baldwin) and Wingman/high HFF (Jones) vs a bloke who basically played exclusively forward pocket isn’t exactly driving home any point!

I feel sorry for Jones. He has looked capable when played forward without 2MP there. Now Edwards comes in and is given the opportunity.

Neither did I but my point is Weid did have a better career than most would give credit too, I used the stats to highlight the fact that jones really hasn’t shown anything to date and used Weid as the comparison to highlight just how overrated jones is in here.
I hope coming into his sixth season he produces something because we desperately need someone to accompany caddy.

Edwards didn’t just “come in”. He took his opportunity by the balls and demanded a spot.

Jones has had a lot of opportunities to do the same but never really stamped his position in the team.

Jones has performed well without 2MP in the team. The problem is that when 2 MP plays, the ball just gets bombed long to him.

I wonder how Jones would go as a defender…

He’s potentially needs to eek out another 4 years to match Weidemans longevity.
only another full season + couple of finals to match his games tally though

Harry Jones is so far ahead of Weed. Honestly, can’t believe someone is trying to support the other side.

Then lay it on, show me some solid statistical evidence that shows jones is miles ahead of Weid because there isn’t any.
Even individual games Weid had him covered it is pure Essendon bias that makes us think Jones has shown more.

Going to have to side with Tbone on this one.

I feel like trading Jones and cox is probably going to be best for the makeup of the list going forward.

The post from Houli Douli seems to have Jones a fair way ahead of Weid at the same age in pretty much everything apart from goals avg.

I like Jones, even just his work rate I really think is valuable. Cox might be in a bit of trouble but that seems like it might be a sad story more than anything.

I’ll give you that jones does have work rate.
It’s hard to marry up those stats on that post for a couple of reasons firstly comparing one individual year compared to another has a lot of bias plus that is comparing Weids 13 games in a Covid affected year vs a nearly full season for Jones in a regular year

Yeah didn’t see it was just for that one year, I was assuming it was a summary of averages for their career to date at the same age.

Respectfully, you’re putting too much stock in stats.

He wouldn’t have found his way with a compass!

So how are you meant to measure a player if not by statistics?
