#45 - Tom Edwards thru 2026

How do you measure a prostitute…by feel.

Team sheet for game against the Cats incidates he has number 44.

EFC website lists him as #45 which I’d assume is the permanent number assigned.

He’s on his way now.
Hope he has a good follow-up to the Dogs hit out.

#44 is Day-Wicks permanent number. 44 is either a typo or the 45 jumpers not ready yet?

Watch the game. Suppose a forward gets a ‘joe the goose’ style goal in the opening minute of the match. One goal to his name. Good for him. Now compare that to a goal kicked from 50 after the siren to win a match. Also one goal to that players name. But they’re worlds apart.

The correct weight for mine is 60% feel, 40% stats. And even then, you have to be careful about which stats you value. Many are often useless. We’ve both seen Zach or Darcy get 40 of the most impotent possessions you can imagine (round 1, '22). Juxtapose that with a tackling machine that amasses 10 tackles in a match. Which particular stat should be more heavily relied upon?

Don’t mind me going off on a tangent. I just think some place too much importance on stats.

I can concede that a goal isn’t always a goal but there is only one stat that jones beats him on (marks total) that tells a story aswell.
I agree that jones has shown small glimpses iam not denying that by any means, iam clearly pointing out that he doesn’t do no where near enough to be a starting 22 player unless something drastically changes.
I just think there is a great deal of Essendon bias on Jones and so far there hasn’t been a solid arguement for him besides “feel”.

I think you used the stats to highlight how farken meaningless stats are

Seems this boy is number 45, reckon 26 would have been better

Sound advice.
Likely Edwards will be below AFL standard. So he may only kick 2 in the second half of early season games… 6 for the match.

Obviously as the season goes on, likely get back to 4 per half, 8 per game.

Did we have a similar discussion about Caldwell this time last year?

I think it was you, if so then hopefully Jones goes like Caldwell and has a great year.

Iam not sure mate I thought that Hobbs would go past Caldwell at one stage but I was clearly and thankfully very wrong about that.
Hopefully i am the jinx breaker and every player I criticise goes onto be a gun.

Note that 2020 season had shortened quarters. You need to increase any stats by 25% if comparing to other seasons.

Play him tonight for a half at least again. It’ll be a better test then we can see if he needs VFL time but i suspect he has already done that out west. Take the punt and throw him in.

Controversial? Flying directly in the fact of reality, I’d say!

I stand by it, nobody can present a statistical arguement that jones has been better

He’ll play against GC if he kicks 2 or 3 tonight

Did he kick 3 or 4?

4 according to EFC VFL account.

So still averaging 8 goals a game.

Is this good enough for Edwards to pass the “see how he plays against Geelong” test?
