#45 - Tom Edwards thru 2026

Missed a couple and finished with just the two early goals.

Press release from the club an hour ago:

Tom Edwards has been named to make his AFL debut for the Bombers against Adelaide on Saturday.

It’s a lifelong dream realised for the 24-year-old SSP selection, who’s gone from teaching in Perth classrooms to roaming the 50-metre arc at the MCG in the space of just two months.

Following a glittering impression on Bombers’ fans with a four-goal haul in the first practice match of the year against the Bulldogs, which secured his place on the list, Edwards has been a key contributor at VFL level since and has earned a big-time debut off the back of his efforts up forward.

Edwards was thrilled to receive the news on Wednesday night, capping off what’s been a life-changing start to 2025 for the WA product.

“Pulling on the Essendon jumper for the first time is beyond a dream come true,” Edwards said.

"A month ago, I was teaching sport science and maths to the Lesmurdie High School kids in Perth, and now I get the chance to run out onto the MCG in front of the Essendon fans. It’s just unbelievable.

I love him unless he doesn’t destroy his opponent in his first senior game, in which case I hate him and never want to see him play again.

Just continue as you have been going Ted :+1:

I like this ^^.

Goals are a problem. None predictable on our list to kick 2.

We can play well but won’t win until we get that sorted

Hope they don’t give him the vest but awesome news for the lad.

If Midtable Brad has his way he’ll be lining up at full-back.

Math and PE teacher, smarter than your average afl player. What would he talk to his team mates about, The Riemann hypothesis. Don’t expect me to comment any further, I don’t want you to know how dumb I am.
