#46 - Lachlan Blakiston

Last disposal not last touch, might be only 2-3 less boundary throw ins only. But agree a more mobile ruck will be more valuable

My bad - I had a different interpretation of the rule changes. Even still, I think modern rucks will be more mobile and looks like we’re trending in that direction

did they change the insufficient intent rule at all? i feel they will be even harsher on it and will pay a lot of ā€œlast touchā€ as not trying to keep the ball in play and award a free to opposition

Only change is between the Arch, last disposal.

Even at WAFL level Blakiston had a rapid emergence from club footy, reserves, and then to take number 1 ruck for the Sharks (East Freo) within 2 years. He’s a late bloomer (as rucks often are). So, he hasn’t been in a professional environment all that long really. I think he’ll surprise a few people because he’s still on that upwards trajectory.

Fact checked as correct. :+1:

Love these tid bits… makes me more excited we might have a competitive ruck role this year. At a minimum we have a unique ruck / defender back up.

hahahaha the irony of someone attempting to insult someone else on logic, when they have the option to not have to read my stuff, and put me on ignore, but doesn’t

Thanks for the insight. Could be a great move picking him up (and teaching defensive skills last year)

Where’s the popcorn… this could escalate.

I have some but it’s stale been sitting in the fridge for weeks.

You took your lack of logic as an insult , proves my scurrilous assertion.

I’m putting it on record that he’ll have his best game of the year against Brisbane.

Why do they make everything more complicated than it needs to be.

Clearly you’ve watched a bit of him.

I just don’t see him being capable of the #1 ruck role at AFL level. In my view he doesn’t have the size or attributes. I see his ceiling as a ruck at the top level is Blicavs type back up.

Do you think he’s capable of being a #1 ruck or is it just because we have effectively lost Draper, Bryan and he’s catapulted there?

Probably not a #1 ruck in the league, sure. But Blicavs has played 250 games and is a premiership player. He’s played plenty of games as theaib ruck for a coach whose last name is Scott. Would be a massive resultif he ended up a Blicavs type back up ruck

Ask Don McKenzie.

I would have both an Essendon Draper and a fit Bryan ahead of him as #1 ruck.

But that’s not what I’m saying… I don’t think he has reached his full potential yet. And I actually think he’ll be more competitive than many think.

Putting it in terms of another team, Fremantle have Sean Darcy (clear number 1 ruck) and the more mobile Luke Jackson. I’m not saying that Blakiston is as anywhere near as good as Luke Jackson (especially as a forward), but Blakiston is a good inch taller than Luke Jackson and similar in general play getting involved in link-ups and covering the ground.

I spoke to Blicavs in the local supermarket yesterday, extremely nice bloke and looking very very fit.

He is going to surprise and be a cult figure.

He’s not strong enough as a no.1 ruckman. He’s a fill in. He’s got an excellent leap but is just too light and easily pushed off the ball and falls over.
