#46 - Lachlan Blakiston

Ehhhhhh, feels a bit premature

It’s good that he’s signed.
But we’ve gone early here.
He hasn’t even played a game as a ruck and we give him an extension? Why not wait until round 5 or 10?

I’m not saying we shouldn’t have signed him, I’m just saying we could have waited a little while longer to get it done.

I’d like to know how much this was influenced by the judgement of Todd Goldstein. If his opinion was Blakiston should be locked away, there are probably very few more qualified to assess quality of ruckmen in football at the moment.

He’s not going to be on huge dollars, he has a red hot go, and can play a few roles. I don’t mind it.

Multi year and he is a gem, give him this year and next year

Gentlemen start your engineeeesssssss!!!

Showing good signs in the ruck and his versatility makes him an important asset. Good news

Given he’ll be the Brownlow favourite after Rd 10 it’s best we locked him away now….

and we’ve got a ton of cap space, worst case is he ends up feeding the kids in the midfield in the VFL, or not playing, if everything goes completely pear shaped. We’ve got a pretty good track record with our non draft pickups though

He’s also a handy backup defender.

We have an injured Ridley an injured Hayes and a very green Gerreyn.

Two positions covered on the cheap.

2-3 years should be enough any more and the club is cooked

imagine Lachy working a normal job then getting a mid season draft to Essendon who is in crisis and then signing a multi year deal on $450,000 per year. Guy must ā– ā– ā– ā–  his pants every time he wakes up.

Have we not learned from all the times we’ve gone early on multi year deals?

Good luck to Blackiston this year, but this guy screams of the type of bloke you have no trouble leaving til after the bye and give him a year or 2 if he’s still on the park and doing ok.

Literally what is there to gain signing him to a long term deal now? Someone just give me one thing?

I don’t think he’s about to explode and thus saving us big coin going early. He’s not going to be on a lot of coin, so not gonna be able to buffer our cap much by front loading. He wouldn’t be the hardest to replace if he were poached.

It’s official 2 year extension

Yeah I think it’s fairly decent to get him tied down now. It will be a team friendly deal and minimum shores up a senior ruck, whether back-up or front-line, for the next 2 seasons after this.

2 years I can deal with.
ā€œMulti year dealā€ sounded like something longer.

As I suggested Multi year deal is locked in.

Well deserved and really good for our squad.

This bloke is way more than a back up and as last week proved, he could become one of the best in the league. He is set to transform our team to a mid table one. Still huge upside in a professional in a pro environment for him.

I’m on board and have been since day dot.

He is in front of Bryan, due to his age and aggression. Bryan could be the man, but he needs to stop being mr nice guy and grow a pair .

CUE THE ACL!

…….or an orange or a mango or a grapefruit???
