#48 - Liam McMahon

Two preseasons with Collingwood as a 18 year old

I’m sure there are plenty of Essendon supporters who are disappointed by the fact that they’ll have to continue watching McMahon kick goals for fun next season.

Caracella was a 3rd tall? Just when you think you’ve heard it all.

do you know what depth is?

Depth? they will be regular starters next year

I guess you worked hard on that… I guess you make a great point. As useless as it is..

No point needed to be made. Suggesting Caracella was a 3rd tall spoke loud enough all by itself.

Wow clap yourself on the back for such glowing intelligence.

Caracella played many games as lead up forward. In essence the third tall role although he wasn’t the tallest of player.

I guess you never saw him Play.

I’m disgusted that we’re wasting a list spot on a guy who came in cold and only managed to top out list in goals per game.

Caracella was a fantastic player. He was never a third tall forward.

We played Lloyd, Lucas, Alessio with cameo’s from Hird as the tall forwards.

I watched every game he played. Absolute Gun, but he wasn’t tall, nor did his game style resemble that of a 3rd tall forward. In a forward line that had all of Lloyd, Lucas, Alessio and Hird. Even Mercuri was there a lot and he took plenty more contested marks than Caracella. He may have taken some lead up marks at times, but that doesn’t make him a 3rd tall forward.

He was a wing/high half forward. Closest thing we have had since him is Martin, although Martin can take a contested mark and Caracella didn’t take many.

Yep. I mean, he, Barnard, Moorcroft were all good above their heads, but as small forwards. How Madbombersean2 could get angry with someone saying he wasn’t a tall forward is extraordinary.

Call him what you want. He was a lead up forward. And so is McMahon

Caracella was never a small forward, 186cm is not a small forward height.

Blake Caracella played primarily as a lead-up forward, but he also spent time on the wing during his AFL career.

Primary Role: Lead-Up Forward

  • Main position throughout his time at Essendon and Brisbane Lions.

  • Known for:

    • Smart leading patterns

    • Excellent foot skills

    • High footy IQ

    • Linking up between midfield and forward 50

  • Not a traditional key forward, but a medium-sized player (186 cm) who was very effective at creating space, finding the ball on the lead, and hitting the scoreboard or setting up others

Secondary Role: Wing

  • Caracella was versatile and rotated onto the wing at times.

  • His composure and elite disposal made him well-suited to delivering the ball inside 50.

  • Especially early in his career, he drifted between half-forward and the wing depending on team structure and matchups.

Summary:

  • Primary position: Lead-up half-forward (medium forward)

  • Secondary role: Wing or high half-forward

So, while he did occasionally play on the wing, he was best known and most consistently used as a lead-up forward.

If Liam can pop up in the F50 without an opponent as many times as Caracella did, then he will have a great career.

What do you reckon?

I guess my memories of Caracella are different to others. For me McMahon reminds me of Caracella. Call him small, medium or third tall.

i have written some stuff for Ai and Ai has written some stuff for me

My guess would be yes, but maybe you were just patient with formatting and generic in tone.

Or do you mean about Caracalla being a lead up forward?
