#5 Devon Smith

Merrett and Heppell aren’t that bad , but the others are a bit of a ■■■■ take

just put Heppell Merrett and Smith in the ring and last one standing is the captain.
the other 2 deputys

Stringer, Heppell, Smith. And Raz seems to have made a pretty good play to remain in there.

Or just have the team take some responsibility and act like leaders and ■■■■ this leadership group crap out the window.

Smith would win that by a country mile.

Heppell, Merrett, Hooker, Hurley, then I would honestly still go Raz who seems to loved by all at the club…don’t let the media reports screw your opinion of him. Seems like a fine young man. On Daniher if he stays I’d give him a break to focus on rehab.

If he’s gone the last spot is between Smith, Tippa, Stringer, Saad, McGrath.

McGrath sounds and looks like a natural leader.
Tippa is a bit shy to speak up, l prefer to let his footy do all the talking.

A small snippet from last preseason suggested Tippa was close to being in the group as he ranked highly in several categories.

McGrath will naturally evolve into a leader but I would still like to see him focus on becoming a star player first.

Edit - Shiel would likely be close as well.

How is he tracking recovery wise? Is he 100% now? We really missed him this year. Him and a functioning ruckman.

We need him back. We need him as captain.

Far out, 1:25 in, that run to harass and pressure from the back pocket, chases 3 different players and gets the tackle in the end

You wouldn’t have seen that from a single essendon player in 2019.

Maybe Walla, maybe Snelling, maybe Saad.

I don’t think enough of our players value that type of effort, or they think it’s beneath them.

Guelfi put in repeat defensive efforts throughout the year too.

We are a 4 goal better team with Devon, watching those highlights that ferocity is infectious, i think we underrate him still

The sort of player that makes every player around him 20% better

Smith loves a goal.

We definitely missed his hardness and non stop aggression.

Agree - we are a 4+ goal better team with him playing.

Disagree. He is worth more than 4+ goals over a season.

4 goals a game better would have put us on 17 wins and a percentage of 150%. i.e. clear on top of the ladder. Somehow I don’t think so.

B and F winner in his second year at a club in peak age bracket, number 1 tackler in game.

Yeah 4 goals better

We’re we a 4 goal better side in 2018?
