#5 Devon Smith

Was 2018 the year he broke the league all time tackle record? Sounds utterly selfish and self absorbed to me!

He’s been bog average, but he’s been resigned for a reason one can assume. Let’s hope he improves in the second half of the season now he’s back in the park.

I would give Hird a go at least he has a crack

Yup three years ago. Long time in footy.

A lot of the ■■■■, selfish things he does now he was doing in 2018 too, it’s just that nobody cared because he made up for it with his ferocity at the ball carrier.

Aside from that little deft kick in the last Q, he was very poor. Seems to carry on like a flog also. Not impressed, hope he improves but he shouldn’t be in the side atm.

Dont want to make a big fuss about it but he really lacks discipline at times giving away stupid frees and unnecessary 50s.

His kicks arnt penetrating enough and he couldnt even mark the ball tonight. He is truly out of form and may need a week or two in the VFL.

Who would we replace him with tho if that was to happen? Cutler? Snelling should be back soon too.

Anyone, as soon as they’re fit. Shiel and Snelling are coming back soon.

Getting a bit of the Josh Caddys where he would give away dumb frees.

It comes from frustration and arrogance, when he is playing better it will drop away again

Agreed, him being in the team is a wasted spot right now. Hope he can shake it off tho for the clubs sake - they have re-signed him for an extra 2 years i think.

I actually can’t stand him.

Berates teammates, gives away dumb frees, always talking back to umpires, thinks he’s tougher and stronger than he is.

Give me Snelling over Smith any day.

Yeah but it’s his first game back so who cares?

He’s struggled for a year or two now, there’s no denying it. If you think otherwise you’ve probably got the blinkers on.

That knee injury looks like it’s taken an mobility/pace he’s had and he looks like a smaller version of Hooker trying to run.

He’s most likely depth next year if we’re serious

Shouldn’t have been re-signed but in the grand scheme of things… we can cover that.

The pressing issue is whether he should be in the team or not. I think he has lost a step of pace and that means he is not impacting the play… then you get the cheap frustration frees and the mouthing off.

Personally I don’t think he was WOG today and I don’t think there are many better options waiting in the wings right now. Do I think he is trouble when Snelling is healthy? Yep… do I think he holds his spot if/when Shiel and McGrath and Caldwell are all hunting spots? Nup.

Right now he seems one of the very few that are still disconnected from the message and energy… I’d give him another few games to see whether he can bounce back otherwise he loses his spot and that will be that.

If we really need his list spot… they can cut him and pay out the contract… its not the end of the world. I doubt he is on huge money. Even that said… I’d probably think he is handy insurance as back up in the small forward/defensive forward role.

All I can say is that he’s lucky that he’s got a sensible haircut.

First game back

So was Draper.

Selfish. Not a leader. Still a dumb footballer.

this is my problem

I don’t think he’s gotten anywhere near that kind of form since then. its almost like he set the bar so high, and then he’s unable to get back there

the attitude thing annoys me. and its been like it for a while. the stupid free kicks need to stop immediately

How is first game back an excuse for him giving away 50m penalties and behind the play free kicks which he does way more often than any other player on our team.

I saw the down field free coming too coz you just knew he would be undisciplined and hit him… ended up in a goal too

It’s not an excuse, SMJ was just trying to find a way to act all high and mighty over people
