#5 - Elijah Tsatas (Part 2: Omitted)

I understand getting a top 5 pick that isn’t a star, like a McGrath type, but they are usually at a minimum still serviceable and play over 100 games.

Tsatas getting delisted this year would have to be the biggest bust of a top 5 pick for us in the modern era wouldn’t it? The strange thing is, all his flaws were obvious in his draft videos. He lacked any damage in his game.

Yep. And to go out of your way to clip it, upload it (complete with derogatory caption) and then post it … I mean, that’s just quite special.

They are - you can see it. The last people to walk past the camera are both ruckman and then it looks like one of the coaches - maybe Stanton. No other forwards or defenders push up from the off screen fifty which would otherwise be expected in a normal simulation.

ive been told on here numerous times, that brad overruled everyone to get tsatsas, bit odd if this is the case to treat him like this?

Well also from memory Essendon were largely tipped to draft Mattaes Phillpou over Tsatas. I remember Tsatas played a lot more winger that would play close to the stoppage in the year he was drafted. He was not really one that played well in the actual contest but that was more to his frame, and he was also competing with the likes of Will Ashcroft for midfield time. He definitely looks to have slimmed down a little this season and from some talk he has worked on that more burst speed. Maybe bombers made the same mistake in his development that they did with Parish.

Another high draft pick of Greek heritage, Jimmy Toumpas, would be a worthy challenger.

A lot about who we delist could depend on where we finish the year. If we have a bad year and have great access to the draft then I would guess Tsatas being delisted is more likely than if we play finals and therefore dont have that access to really high level talent.

Not sure what a match sim would be attempting to achieve if both teams are required to clear a stoppage as if they are both considered the attacking team with the result being a hack kick forward to the team wearing the opposing jumpers set up in a forward position.

It’s up there, but there are heaps of examples of busts in the top 5.

2014: Pickett
2015: Schache
2017: Dow
2019: Stephens
2020: Phillips

Then there are other players who may not have been as pure busts as those or were notorious selections because of who was picked after them

Plenty of top 5 busts, but this would be considered particularly bad when you consider the quality of talent taken around him.

Other than Humphrey, the players picked right after Tsatas haven’t done much either (McKenzie, Clark, Ginbey).

The Tsatas selection was more poor for me because he clearly wasn’t the type of player we needed.

Precisely. You are not sure. Because there is absolutely no context. Which makes the angle you are taking all the more silly.

I’d consider it more a drill than “match-sim”. I know it sits within match-sim highlights, but outside of the midfield group, it’s not really simulating match play.

I suspect the focus for the midfielders is to try get the ball out of congestion so they can spot up someone wearing the same shirt, and for those inside the 50 to be prepared to both defend and attack.

The kid is elite at centre clearance 1st for us on average and stoppage clearance 4th average develop him in the guts and rap the reward.

Don’t forget these stats are off very limited game time and a game he did get playing the whole game with a broken hand.

As you know, the issue is his only strength is clearance work. He has too many weaknesses that aren’t afl standard

We have other mids who can do that plus have a better rounded game

Definitely not a favourite, hence why he barely played him while others kept getting gigs

Its a drill to simulate centre bounce setup and we’ve made it contextual so the ‘attacking team’ isn’t playing against no-one in the midfield. Effectively a 12 on 12 drill that they can repeat & coach mistakes with positioning etc.

Which is most likely complete rubbish by the very few who want to tell us that nothing was DUDoro fault. Scott overruled him to get Tsatas, then he would be playing him more (like you said)

i dont think he had to overrule anyone. we rated tsatas really highly and so did just about everyone else.

Disagree. Humphrey looks like a star, Phillipou has shown he can play very high level AFL football and has only been held back by injury, and Ginbey has also looked very capable. Still think Mackenzie will break out this year as well.
