#5 Elijah Tsatas (Part 2)

Can’t say I agree totally.
“Busting his arse” …
Kind of suggests that playing football in the VFL is some how a terrible fate that he has to some how endure.

He is getting to play football and is being paid to do it.
If he loves the game, I would assume he would be doing his best, because when you go out to play you do your best for your best’s sake.

If he is that damn good, I am sure another club will pick him up, and if that happens it will probably be because he performed well or “busted his arse” as you put it, in the VFL.

If they don’t … what does that say.

I find you a very interesting poster you have an extreme dislike of Tsatas but an insane almost prejac love of Perkins, I very much look forward to finding out who your middle player is

LoL. ….

Is this the part where I am supposed to retort with some equally inane response.

Pass. ….,.

Not at all I was being genuine.

Regardless of what you think of tsatas he story is a case study of how ■■■■■■ our club is.

Drafting: we should never have drafted a player at pick 5 with such kicking issues and who can only play midfield.

List Management: even if he didn’t have the kicking issues and the lack of positionally versatility what was the plan with our list? He is battling for a spot against players like Parish who signed to a long term deal, Caldwell another long term deal. Hobbs who couldn’t get a look in already who is very similar. Durham is probably a surprise packet and ironically the only player you could play outside of the middle. We basically have 3 small mids who aren’t really effective elsewhere and we went and got another one. And I didn’t even mention merrett.

Player development: he’s shown he can dominate at vfl level. He’s not going to improve playing vfl games. In a rebuild year he should be playing AFL games. So he isn’t the finished product but plenty of others in that boat. The amount of footy he has missed with the sub role and missing games is appalling.

Selection integrity: I don’t doubt there are valid reasons to justify why you’d exclude him. That said, we see the same rubbish served up week after week by the likes of Hobbs, Perkins and Gresham and plenty of others yet they get opportunity after opportunity.

No wonder Draper wants out.

Those in the know are there any rumors about his attitude or has he done something wrong behind the scenes?

It’s pretty much laughable now that he isn’t getting a game. There has to be more to it.

Do you know that for certain?
He comes across as a grumpy old git and is defensive I agree … and I’m no big fan of Scott let me tell you.
But unless you’re party to discussions with him, the coaching staff and selection committee we can’t be sure. Let alone the Tsatas / Coach dialogues…

For mine, the likely scenario was Tsatas agitating for a recall, got told he’ll have to wait and why (defensive and skill issues, not in best mids, no alternative possie etc.) and harsh words were exchanged … and both parties have concluded its best he look elsewhere for 2026. Him not being included for this match smacks of this as I and many of us here thought he’d have been an in for this game.

What can you say … sometimes these things flip and if he’s thrown a last shot post bye he might come out a De Goey in red and black. Unlikely but I for one would be thrilled if he did.

It’s profoundly disappointing.

He certainly has flaws, but we’re the present day St Kilda of the 80s.

The real truth is… We’re all speculating. The Tsatas situation has become very emotive and its impacting people’s objective judgement, from both sides.

There would be a story. There will be reasons and in time they will unfold.

I’m not anti Tsatas but equally I’m not sold on his overall capability just yet. He has some great qualities but some just as big weaknesses. That said, all things equal I’d be giving him games but at same time suggesting his fans brace for disappointment when he makes mistakes on field and doesn’t really impact at AFL level.

They’ve picked Hobbs this week as he has a bigger body and will likely be better option in an expected wet weather and heavy ground. I’ve got no issue with that for this week alone.

Im on the fence here, partly because, I’ve been rightly called out for rubbishing his kicking without paying enough attention to vfl form. Its just hard to belive its that much better, when he comes in, albeit as sub, against North and Brisbane, and kicks it up a chimney. Now after the weekend, id be more than happy to see him playing ahead of Parish, who’s kicking isnt much better and doesn’t have the ability to break from a contest the way Tsatas does.

Voice of reason - begone…

I laugh at some comments like “Supporters deserve to know why Brad refuses to play Tsatas”. Ummm, no you don’t, the coach reports to the board, not the supporters.

It is possible that Tsatas is perfectly aware of why he is not getting a game and is ok with it. Perhaps he’s been told that he will be able to better work on his deficiencies better in the VFL without the media and supporter scrutiny and at some point will get his chance.

Does anyone actually know if Tsatas is upset, or is it just Blitz that is upset?

Not in the know but you’d have to think he’s a little frustrated. Reward for effort, he’s turning in good performances in the VFL isn’t he?

I can’t see why the club can’t give someone like Perkins a spell and find a way to rotate Tsatas into the squad.
It’s not like we are winning many games so what’s the worst that can happen, we lose more games and get a top 3 draft picks? Oh no how dreadful.

Unless the coaching and selection staff are extremely inept (which is also a possibility) there clearly some issue we aren’t privy to, which is a damn shame because this is a season we are forced to give a lot of kids a look at the top level. It feels like absolute madness not to give him an extended run in the seniors.

Respect your view and tsatas fans are typically not suggesting he will be a fully fledged star, we just want him
Given the same opportunity everyone one else seems to be getting.

Tonight will
Presumably be wet, a territory game, tsastas in my view is a better clearence player than Hobbs.

I think Tsatas has some really good attributes, but on the other hand I can see and acknowledge his weaknesses.

We’ve invested a very high draft pick with him, he is pretty much BOG every time he plays in the reserves, and we’ve got injuries galore.

The fact that he’s not getting a game (and isn’t even an emergency) is just bizarre.

Was behind the bench at the last game at WH, he seemed prettttty invested to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
