#5 Elijah Tsatas (Part 2)

Actually the Board reports to the members, who consists wholly of supporters.
Consequently, Scott does report to supporters.
As for Tsatis, I’m not sure about him and I think he was another Dodoro bad pick.
However, I cannot understand how he has been banished to the VFL, appearing without any hope of promotion.
Has he defensive flaws, yes, but so do many others given opportunities before him.
Is his disposal average, yes, but so do many others given opportunities before him.
Has he performed well in the VFL, yes, yet others that have not performed to his level are & have been given opportunities before him.
As some have stated, these are perceptions; however, peoples Perceptions are their Reality.

I’m sorry but it has been said a million times, Hobbs is not playing in the middle. Tsatas can not play the role Hobbs is.

I really want him to play but it won’t be in the position Hobbs is currently trying to play.

If we are so full of onballers that we are happy with, that Hobbs and Tsatas can’t be played in their preferred position (and I agree this is happening), then you have to ask how is it that we have been trying to push Perkins into becoming a mid, when he is clearly not good at a lot of aspects of it. Surely Tsatas could have been having the time in the middle that Perkins has had.
It seems likely to me that they have made a decision on him - either trade him out at year end, or get him to keep working on his weaknesses in the VFL without promoting him to play only part time onball in the seniors.
The latter doesn’t make sense IMO.

I get that but I was responding to a previous poster said they’ve picked Hobbs because it is wet weather and he has a bigger body and a better option on the heavy ground.

It’s interesting isn’t it. He looks happy and relaxed around the group in footage I’ve seen - very invested and continues working super-hard to improve on his weaknesses. Almost like he is working to a plan based on communication we are not privy to.

Doesn’t seem like the type of behaviour of a kid who has lost faith in his club\coach or personal playing strategies IMO. But as old mate Brash would tell us ‘time will tell’.

We have a plenty of centre square mids, but aside from Setterfield, they aren’t particularly big and most pay scant regard to the defensive aspects of the game.

I don’t think Perkins has it in him to be that player either, but at least he has the physical tools. There have been a couple of games where he’s done the job, but I agree that he’s not a long-term solution. I’m keen to get Reid because I think he’s the aggressive power athlete that would compliment our other mids.

Oh sorry, my apologies Willie ■■■■.

Yes we should move Merrett out of stoppages/CBAs to accommodate the next batch coming through, and he can be very handy on a HBF/HFF. And Martin isn’t taking CBAs or many coal-face spots at a stoppage.

i’m looking forward to next year, after trading out tstatas and hobbs, and caldwell, parish , setterfield and durham have season ending injuries.

touch wood.

Digging this one up a bit, sorry Ivan but I’m really sick of hearing this. It’s like the kid is in some parallel universe to the rest of our list.

Hobbs cannot kick (and I rate Hobbs and wish he got more time in the middle)
Jones cannot handpass or find the pill
Prior cannot defend
McKay cannot mark/handpass/defend
Perkins cannot get out of second gear, he makes early Langford look like he was on meth
Lual, frankly, cannot play

All of these players have been given ample opportunity. I don’t know why Tsatas as a 3rd year player has to be the finished product before he can even get 120 minutes (or his fair share thereof) footy?

We throw ar;ound this lack of defensive effort and size in our midfield a lot.
But it mainly applies to Shiel, Parish and Tsatas, and Perkins when his plays mid.
Caldwell and Durham both are pretty good in that regard, as well as Setterfield as you said.
Merrett is not big and strong, but, at his best (when he is not buggered from trying to do everything), he is also now committed defensively.
I’m not sure Reid is needed purely for those attributes - he has pretty much what Durham has but in spades.

Martin has take some CBAs a few weeks back, and he looked pretty bloody good. I don’t think he had any CBAs last week. Merrett has been moved out of the centre square lately, but I’m not sure if it’s for the better. At the start of the year he was playing at career best levels playing 70/30 mid/forward. His form has dropped considerably since then. I think he’s an exceptional mid and a decent defender.

Personally I think our best centre square mix is Merrett, Caldwell, Setterfield, Martin and Durham. If Parish recaptures his best form he’s a walk-up start too. That makes it pretty hard for Tsatas to get a look in for the forseeable future.

Agree with this cause i notice all this with players too. Ive come to terms that we all just over analyze and try to pick on things and assume things that couldnt quite likely not even be close to being true

No need to apologise at all mate.

i don’t disagree, he does seem to be held to a higher standard. tsatas’s biggest problem in terms of selection really is his versatility IMO. if he could play forward and reliably hit the scoreboard or spot up leading targets or apply ferocious pressure he’d be playing more.

that said, he could have easily played in the centre ahead of perkins vs lions and probably could have been given an opportunity ahead of hobbs at half forward at certain stages.

my guess is scott doesn’t trust any one element in his game. I suspect he trusts hobbs to at least put his body on the line and attack a contest at 110%

This is the frustration - the inconsistency.

There’s always gonna be rumours around any player so I just hope he will continue to work hard and get the opportunity he deserves, he is contracted so we have a fair say in what will happen going forward

That would leave us light on for mids, but lets see. Assuming similar list
b: Nguyen McKay Ridley
hb: Johnson Reid Roberts
r: Draper Merrett Martin
c: Duursma #Perkins Clarke
hf: Guelfi Wright #McGrath
f: kako Caddy Langford
int: May Gresham El-Hawli Redman
sub: El-achkar

Rotations - Gresham, McGrath, Langford

no Parish/setterfield/caldwell/hobbs/tsatas/Durham
Do we get any new recruits? to throw in?

Perhaps others are playing the role Brad has asked of them, whereas Tsatas is playing a see ball get ball role at the expense of the team system.

I get that he was pick 5, I get that he finds a lot of the ball and I get that there are several others in the side that have flaws in their games, but no-one outside of the inner sanctum should know what discussions are occurring internally. How would Tsatas feel if Brad came out and said the reason he’s not getting a game is because he is a crap kick, doesn’t defend and is not a team player? Not saying these are the reasons, but he came out and was blatantly honest?

Also, does he then go through and point out the issues of every player?

Every coach has his favorites and players they don’t rate. I don’t get the Perkins love, especially recently, but I don’t rate Tsatas, so understand why he is not in the team.

I agree and I’m not advocating any coach coming out and singling out players.
I’m advocating that coaches should be open and clear about their selection processes, requirements & expectations and I don’t feel we are doing that.
The fact that so many are referring to “selection integrity” seems to support this opinion being widespread.
