#5 Elijah Tsatas (Part 2)

Backing him to develop in the magoos is not the same as canning him. There is some room for nuance in the argument for whether he should be playing ahead of any of Shiel, Hobbs or Setterfield etc.

He will get games at different stages. Only he and the coaches will now exactly where he needs to prove himself. Racking up possessions has never been his issue.

That seems like a pretty big backtrack from “quickly becoming the most irrelevant stat in footy”

If you can’t get your head around the concept of quality of quantity then feel free to join the kiddies table where I’m sure there’s some colouring-in pictures available.

People dont think hes a walk up start because hes young and a high pick.

People think hes a walk up start because every time he plays vfl he gets 35 touches and 10 clearances.

Any facts to back that up?

A very quick search might suggest otherwise.

Are you seriously suggesting Dylan Shiel is a quality ball user? Lmao

Had a day out today & good on him for responding to being dropped well

It was an 11 goal win against a BOG ordinary Sydney VFL team however

Lav had 32 possessions from the back line

The important stats will be what was his pressure like, 3 tackles when you are first choice inside mid isn’t a high number. And his kick retention.

Hopefully he keeps knocking down the door for when his opportunity comes

Well today he had 39 and 9 clearances so that’s pretty factual.

It sort of isn’t far off.

He has averaged 33 touches for the last 11 games (quick count)

Not at all but he brings other things to the table which Tsatas currently doesn’t. Ability to burst through congestion and carry the ball by breaking lines just to name a few. Shiels inferred pressure is better than Tsatas too.

I just did the math, almost 34 over the last 12 games lmao.

Tell me you didn’t watch the game without telling me you didn’t watch the game.

Over 10 of those were kick ins.

And Tsatas brings elite clearances by league wide standards, at 21 with like 12 games under his belt. They are both elite by hand and both poor defensively.

I dont understand how this is even a conversation.

Not discrediting this but he took the bulk the kick ins and was oft untidy with his disposal. Was a pretty poor disposal game from him all in all, despite the inflated disposal count.

That proves my point to a tee that clearance is the biggest indicator towards winning a game.
It doesn’t mean a thing how you use it if you can’t get it first

Eh I don’t see a lot of backing, more canning and like I said, from peanuts who didn’t even watch the game

Lav literally stole 10 of those possessions from kick in

Ffs, if your instant reaction to a 39 possession, 9 clearance, 1 goal game is to rush into a players thread and try to downplay it then I think the problem of preconceived ideas is probably yours.

And about 4 of those kicks didn’t hit ■■■■

And like how I referred to the example article previously first possession from stoppage is only a part of what generates successful clearances.

He is developing nicely and when he is able to fulfill that role and perform to the level required at AFL he will play more than he is now.

Again it’s not a bad thing to have talented kids who need to improve specific areas of their game in the VFL.
