He hasn’t shown any improvement on defensive measures since drafted. As a junior he averaged 1 tackle in Champs and NAB League. This year he is averaging one tackle. He is around the fall of the ball so often that anything less than three tackles a game is pretty poor. He has two 1% acts from three games and is rated poor for pressure acts. He is not doing the team first things. And his minimal hurt factor does not offset his defensive limitations.
Our midfield has for long time has had a well earned reputation for being one-way runners who compile great numbers, but don’t operate collectively as a team or hurt you with the ball. Caldwell, Durham and even Setterfield have transformed our midfield and given it an edge we have not had for 20 years.
There is no doubt Tsatas has a great ability to get to the fall of the ball. He is exceptional at it. But he is falling short on too many non-negotiables that I don’t think he is a viable option at the moment. At a minimum, he needs to get fit enough so he can play more than 70% of game time without blowing up, lift his pressure on the opposition when they have the ball and develop his game so his touches are hurting the opposition, not just passing the pressure on to the next player.
Twoomey bases his pick positions on what he is advised clubs are doing and considering, not necessarily on what he actually thinks about said player. He also rates a lot of players “highly” and writes fluff about a lot of them, regardless of what pick they are projected to be.
I think shanking kicks along the ground once he got to AFL level, missing targets by a long way, and struggling to run out games killed his confidence.
Because of these problems, Scott then dropped him.
If he keeps working hard on fitness and disposal he’ll get another chance soon.
Any player considered top 10 should possess high level, if not elite, skill set in the most fundamental of AFL skills. That’s kicking, handballing and marking.
He’s getting 70% game time because he’s unable to sustain the required running. Even over the limited minutes he is playing he is blowing up, and putting minimal pressure on the opposition.
I don’t think think he’s much of an endurance athlete, but I think the lack of defensive pressure is also attitude.
Nah ace the reason they didn’t trade back
Was because the first pick they were offered would not have landed them
Phillipou - it fell
Just behind where the saints took him.
FWIW Twomey gets a lot of his information from recruiters and player managers. Generally speaking, he isn’t going out on a limb with his opinion on prospects.
