2012 was just a typical year, nothing suss about it at all.
FC had us spooked after the 99 prelim. Even in 2000, although we beat them three times, we were tentative and nowhere near as convincing as against all other teams. They were with us in all those games, well into the last quarter. There was no reason for us to lose those games in 2001 except that we were scared of them.

This game was the final nail in the coffin for Knights’ coaching career. Was a dead man walking ever afterwards in 2010.
West Coast won three games that year, two were against us.
We beat four of the top eight sides that year, including demolishing an eventual grand finalist.
The duality of Knights coached teams, I guess.
A few weeks before this game I had had some crappy stuff happen in my personal life, and was struggling with some mental health stuff.
In a bid to cheer me up and lift my spirits a bit, a friend got me some medallian club tickets from their work for this game.
Spoiler: It did not lift my spirits.
The Knights years were truly bizzare. High scoring shootouts, wins against the good teams of the day, some full blown Essington losses.
99% sure it was my brothers birthday and we ■■■■■■ off to the casino in the 3rd quarter
I was at that late-season game vs the Saints.
We kicked 8 of the first 9 or something like that. It was a performance that truly defied the form of both sides at the time. Out of nowhere.
St Kilda got the first one, we then piled on 8 or 9 in a row
That’s right! After which, the Saints were never in it.
An oddly complete performance from us.
Knights era a golden past compared to season 2025. But we may be seeing some green shoots now…
We got out to a 10 goal lead at some point in the 3rd
I’ll admit, I got completely swept up by that first game against North under Knights in ’08. At the time, I remember thinking it was the best and most exciting we’d looked in years – we just looked so quick. It’s fair to say that my excitement was tempered by Geelong the following week.
All anyone needs to do is say the word “LeCras” and my mind goes right there.
Ugh.

Geelong just gives me shivers everytime.
I know it’s probably not fact but just seems like in recent years they always kick 5 or 6 in the opening quarter and the game is done by 10-15 minutes in.
It was pretty bad but Geelong did similar to Collingwood in a semi-final a few weeks later.
We have an unmatched talent for turning a solid defeat by a just plain better team into an ignominious thumping by kicking like Mr Magoo in games like this. I’m sure that Adelaide game where we kicked 6.14 and lost by over 100 is coming up in the list too…
What could have been…
