50 Worst Essendon Losses since 2000 (countdown)

Often forgotten, but the win against Brisbane at the Dome in ‘03 was a great one. They had owned us physically and mentally since ‘01 and we knocked them off in front of a pretty big crowd.

Sydney ‘01 is a contender for me my top 10. The Alessio kick to win the game after trailing all day.

That was the second game I went to. Barely remember anything except the stadium exploding at the end. Have watched the closing stages at least a hundred times back.

Was in the middle of posting that when you did.

Probably slides in 12-15

I respect this list is mostly essendon pantsing itself on the big stage but I would have to have post-gate and Anzac day 2019 on here - if not for the sheet unbridled rage I felt after both

Port at home early to mid 10’s

they’d been getting fisted weekly, Hawthorn did them in by about 150 the week before.

They led just about all day and we played about 15 mins of good footy in the last to win it

Yeah, I was mostly this list on performance vs expectation. Those two games were absolutely infuriating and belong on a list of some kind.

Great shout. 2011, I think? Our last game before a bye and then finals. Should have won by 80+ as a tuneup but pulled a classic Essendon move instead. We made John Butcher look decent.

Two wins that I thought were excellent performances, in trying circumstances against pretty good opposition, were round 1 in 2013 and round 1 in 2014. I also thought the early season thumping we gave Brisbane in 2019 was a terrific win.

Look at that form. And they got rinsed by jason tutt the week before

It may not be top 10 but Geelong 2017 was the peak of my Essendon optimism for the past 20 years. Joe and Raz. What could have been.

Oh boy. I went absolutely insane when they piled on the goals early in the last

2003 Hird win on siren v WCE was best win I’ve ever been to.

HOW THE ■■■■ DID I FORGET ABOUT THAT

The 2019 Hooker game v GWS will always be a fond memory for me. No way we should have won that match. The 2023 Dreamtime game similar

Not that the wins were against good opposition, but have plenty of fond memories from the 2021 season. We actually belted crap sides for once and you could just sit back and enjoy the footy

*2004. We had a Hird-less win against WCE in 2003 at Docklands that was pretty good too but doesn’t touch 2004.

Gold Coast game when Kyle Reimers kicked 8.

Much underrated player, Steve Alessio.

Our win over Geelong in round 9, 2018, is, in my opinion, probably the best EFC performance of the last 10 years. After an awful start to the season, we came out that night and played with a physicality that was so noticeable and impressive and were 9 goals ahead in the last before Geelong scored a few late ones.

That game should have been the blueprint going forward. Unfortunately we’d reverted to abject timidity by round 1 the following season.

Where would you have a loss like 2019 Anzac Day?

We weren’t poor, in fact we played rather well, but the umpiring was so one-sided I still get angry thinking about it.

It hurts more than many on your list, just not for any reasons related to our performance.
