From memory the AFL forced us to adopt it at the last minute, within a couple of weeks of that Saints game.
Someone decided that the fat sash + red shorts look was too appealing, made too much sense and therefore had to go.

A lot of games in here are bringing back some bad memories, so to prevent regurgitation, I won’t add in all the same games.
April 25th 2016 - Anzac Day:

I was in the standing area near AFL Members that day and I was in-between two absolute f’wit Pies supporters that high-fived every single goal, every single contested mark, every single free kick. Take a look at the score difference at half time - I left.
Note: this loss is more about how bad a mood this game put me in. The list was decimated that year, as we all know - which added to some of the pain as we had looked competitive the previous years.
1988 round 12 in the rain. Got there late and missed the first quarter. Worse than our last game v Tiges.
The game itself isn’t as bad as most in here, but I was very flat after Round 1 2019 vs GWS.
I was stupidly bullish for the season, having added Shiel to Stringer, Saad, Smith, and the remnants of the fun 2017 forward line.
We got absolutely drubbed from start to finish. Disinterested, lazy football emblematic of the Worsfold era. Mark Baguley having his Indian summer in the forward line (bless him).
Dawned on me that we’d completely bungled the post-saga tilt at a flag, and we’ve only really begun the process of righting the ship in the last couple of years.
Agree with all of that. The same could be said of R1, 2022 against the Cats. It was game over half way into the first quarter.
2016 is one of the better years to look back on.
I generally get flat thinking about 08, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18 through to today.
But 16 was not so bad. Went every week excited to see Tippa do stuff, Joe get better and better and later on, Raz kick multiple goals each week.
Anzac Day 2016 went as expected. The only bad game was Brisbane which felt like we didn’t try to win as much as we should have. The win against Melbourne was one of the best ever days at the footy.
That GWS game was the pits. Had to wait soooo long for it because it was the Sunday of round one. Spent the last half dead heading roses in the garden half listening on radio. They reckoned if it wasn’t round one, it was a coach killing performance.
Looking back at these older matches EFC attendances rarely seem to crack 20K. Much more interest in our meagre modern offerings.
Yeah I’ve seen a few of those.
The Nicholls game might be the nadir of the entire bunch.
Brisbane in 2017. Worst of it is when the players made Campbell apologise for his comments. That’s when I knew we had zero leadership on field.
fark Carlton on a Sunday afternoon in the pouring rain., maybe round 3? They were paying about $5, too good of an offer to give up. Of course, Essington came through
What about Cooneys first game for us? Kicked a torp to put us in front, then Heeney or Hayward sunk us in the final term.
Also that game v Freo when Goddard got injured in the warmup.
Also our 150th anniversary game was awful.
FC early 2005 on a friday night, we were comfortable for most of the game after a close first qtr, about a 4 goal lead at 3QT, ended up getting overan and lost by less than a goal. Poppin Fresh Whitnall kick 3 or 4 in the last.
2003 for some reason is on my mind. 9 goal loss , Treadrea bag of 7 or 8
There was a st kilda one mid 00’s in the belting rain that sucked donkey balls.
we played fc in the rain some time in the 10s and it was like none of our players had ever stepped foot on a grass surface before, let alone played footy
Thats the one I was talking about. Can’t remember the exact year, maybe 2019?
We’ve often played them in the rain. And they more than often win those games.
I remember that. For some reason I couldn’t follow the game in real time, but I had recorded it and I was watching it later without knowing the result. My son came in just as the replay of the fourth quarter was about to start, with us over four goals ahead, and saw me sitting there with a smile on my face settling down to watch us complete our victory. I told him not to tell me the result. The look he gave me told me that watching the last quarter was not going to be the enjoyable experience I was expecting.
150th match was awful but the pre match was very good. Gave us that mystical vision of Hird and his upraised stole, both sides of the crowd went crazy near us.
