It depends on how long it takes him to request a trade out of here.
Jordan Dawson
Position: Forward
Height:189cm
Weight: 84kg
Age: 18
Junior Club: Sturt
Bio: A medium forward he has impressed in the SANFL for Sturt with his ability to lead to the right space and finds space in the forward line. Covers the ground well for his size he is a strong mark above his head. Has potential to be a genuine forward prospect after growing from 187cm to 190cm in the last twelve months. He is a left footer who has shown he has the ability to convert in front of the big sticks when he finds the opportunity.

āJordan is a medium sized forward who ended up playing some good football with Sturt at league level in the SANFL. Has really strong hands overhead and has a booming left foot kick.ā
i know that, thatās why i keep saying you try and find a better mix If caldwall isnāt up to par.
and comparing what happened at collingwood and going with the assumption it will happen here.
A daicos is a once in a generation talent and has played everywhere and is given free licence, so thatās a bullshit example to run with.
and
B iām not opposed to the theory of it, iām apposed to the current application of it.
yes collingwood had crisp, and mcreary and the likes who covered midfield minutes, they also won the flag, hence their BALANCE of who the picked to implement the roles was WAY WAY WAY better than ours.
you seem to be arguing iām against the approach, which iām not, but the balance of how they pick the side is way off.
and again if caldwall is only going to pick up center bounces here and there, then he isnāt being picked as a midfielder is he, and heās being picked as a forward. itās like picking up goldstein and playing him permanently forward and claiming heās a KPF, and then judging him on his rucking only stats.

wow one example, youāve proved so much, congrats.
Gary Ablett Jr drafted as a midfielder, played the best part of his first 5 years as a forward.
Despite what many on here say I believe McGrath was drafted as a midfielder.
Parish has / had attributes. I just donāt see the attributes in Caldwell. Hope Iām wrong but he looks like a good honest toiler and not much more (yet). I just worry they donāt know where to play him or have the role he wants to give to him.
Seems most of the list are committed and bought in, if he wants out itād be a shame but thatās how it goes - next man up
He doesnt have a spot with us in the team unfortunately. Heād be stupid to stay.
I dunno.
He seems like someone who you (currently) could evaluate as āgood player, excess to needsā and switch for someone who helps round out the list a bit more.
I really hope he has a blinding 2024 and he moves to āno we absolutely must hold on to himā level.

Thatās not why traded for him.
He was brought in prior to us falling upon Parishās (not so) secret talent of being one of the most natural midfielders to have ever played at Essendon.
Parish now owns the spot he was earmarked for when traded in.
Everyone knew parish was a midfielder at the time. We didnāt Draft Caldwell because parish was going to be a perm small forward and we needed another mid in parishās now spot. Itās poor list management. His manager would be furious imo. Heās not given the opportunity to maximise his potential, and his $$$$.
Sounds familiar.
I donāt think his manager has had much to do with it, I think he has had enough time in the midfield to prove his value, and unfortunately that value isnāt within the top 4-5 midfielders at Essendon.
Caldwell went pick 12 in 2017 (I think) and was traded to Essendon at the end of 2020. Hobbs was selected with pick 13 in the 2021 draft.
Pretty sure Caldwell has played more games than Hobbs. Both are the same height I believe also.
To date, Hobbs is well ahead of Caldwell imo.
To date, Hobbs is well ahead of Caldwell imo.
Absolutely not. When actually playing in the midfield Caldwell has played significant better.
IMO Hobbs is better.
We will see once Hobbs is back I guess, but I see him slotting in as the rotation for Parish.
Caldwell I see as a floating fwd/occasional 5th or 6th midfield option. After Setterfield, Hobbs, Parish, Merrett and probably Durham + Shiel (when fit).
Again, IMO - doesnāt mean itās correct, just how I see it. Not a big fan of Shiel, but canāt deny some of his 2023 games.
yes acknowledged
Setterfield has taken Caldwellās spot, not Hobbs imo.
Caldwell was doing those defensive midfield roles in late 2022. He had a good game on Neale iirc

He went 11 in 2018 and has played 55 games. He is only 23 and will reach his prime in the next two years.
Hobbs is the same size and three years younger, both are hard at it, and both can be in the Team.
In my view Parish is is slightly smaller is at his prime at 26 and is a different type of player, with better skills, but both Caldwell and Hobbs may reach his level. We need them all.
Both Hobbs and Caldwell are good but both are very slow
