If we get him via PSD then that would be a great result, but it’s obviously a risk. I’m sure that the contract price on him would have been some protection but surely north would have been very interested and been able to cover the cost.
I posted about this in the trade thread…basically, let’s hold off on attempting the points calculation until at least after this 2020 draft is finished, because pick 29 is very likely to slip to a later position…and similarly there will be slippage next year due to free agency picks magically appearing…once those picks are actually used, I expect the calculation to be comfortably later than pick 20.
The kid is a bomber for life now I will cheer him good bad or ugly I can’t wait for him to be one of our stars
Probably thought the same when we got Saad to the club
Virtually inevitable that North would have taken him. Full rebuild and lots of spare salary cap space.
Never a realistic option.
Lot of upside but we paid a steep price and I don’t like the hamstring injuries… we are woeful at managing injuries… I can see this kid never getting on the park.
Having said that… GWS have been good at identifying talent and took this kid at 11… and he was good enough to get a few games in a truly star studded midfield… so lets hope.
Also young enough to fit into the demographic with McG, Riddles, Parish and 6,7,8 etc… so hopefully part of the platform of our squad for 10 years.
Correlates with who is doing the choosing.
Steep price? Based on magic fairy dust points, we paid the equivalent of pick 18
Mitchell received one, pinched by the AWFL, he’s not a brownlow medal winner in his own right.
Any way you want to look at it, an early 2nd round pick in a strong draft is a good pick, that’s what we paid. (Plus the Fantasia pick, which is a meh pick)
So yeah, we paid a decent price.
By my way of figuring we only paid a future second for Caldwell in the end.
This year’s 29 was highly unlikely to be used by us.
With 3 picks in the top 10, and 2 NGA players that’s about our lot. Even splitting pick 8 for two in the teens would leave Pick 29 as unused ( or we’d take Brand with it.)
Caldwell is probably better than Shiel already
Thanks Ess2000, I’m excited about him too!
Good faith.
Pragmatically, burn one club this year and they’ll burn us back next year.
You dont think taking him PSD would have been us burning them in return for the fleecing we took on Shiel
Norf would take him in a heartbeat
No, I don’t. Particularly since it’s hard to conjure a scenario where he gets past Adelaide, Hawks, Sydney & North.
And I think Hawthorn or North would of got him first. Wouldn’t matter how much he said he wanted to get paid they could afford him. We had to trade
They need to just ditch the psd serves no purpose anymore.
No good purpose.
It helps C###ton strong arm in trade negotiations (now that the traditional C*nton strong arm tactic- the horse head in the bed - is a bit passe)
