#6 Jye Caldwell - thru 2028

Are we getting Caldwell just for the sole reason of being able to show that players still want to come to us instead of leaving???

He got midfield time just not much of it, he spent a lot of time forward but he got most of his touches playing in the middle.

This might sound ludicrous, but I’d consider moving McGrath into Saad’s HB spot next year and give Caldwell a good run in the guts!

This was a helpful set of highlights to get a sense of his game: https://www.gwsgiants.com.au/news/271658/first-pick

Yeah, that was not unimpressive. Ta.

Probs makes sense as a Merrett replacement but we were assured he was going nowhere :upside_down_face:

I reckon that reported 5yr/500k offer is rubbish.

Ok, so my reasoning is that Merrett, Shiel, Snelling, Smith are either mids or forwards. McGrath is the only one of those that can do a lockdown job if required. If Caldwell comes in, he’s going to be expecting a midfield role and complements the others more.

McGath is the only good player we have that can play that Small defender role and also add run. This is unless we manage to get one from another team.

It certainly didn’t add up to me. Extraordinary.

If it suits the team balance, I’ve no problem using McGrath in the back half. He can shut down and also give drive out of defence. The midfield would have to be doing the job though.

Probably seeded by Gws.

It’ll be a multi year deal though.

McGrath was our best midfielder this year. His trajectory is on a massive upward swing. There is no way we ā– ā– ā– ā–  with his development now by playing him anywhere other than the midfield FFS.

McGrath and merrett are our two best midfielders, imo

work the rest around that

Team balance. Saad and McKenna need to be replaced. None of the other mids are capable.

What! Surely not

Do we believe St K were offering Draper 400k before he’d debuted…?

Might not be that farfetched.

Either way, the big carrot for him will be opportunity.

but in reality 50% of blitz will be calling him a spud within 12 months, after going 6-16 with a late season capitulation of 5 50+ point losses.

So he just hasn’t been picked then? Not injury keeping his tally low?

One of those vids said he’d had injuries in his pre draft year or two, … someone else said dodgy Hammies still, …
