Heeney has been sensational this year. You don’t have to put him down to make Merrett look good.
Clearly felt the club was farked for 3 years.
Zach is a notch above though. Heeney has had the benefit of a much better side to support him. Zach has done it by himself for years. I’m not bashing Heeney, but he’s not in the same ball park for me.
I think across the course of his career Merrett has him covered. But right atm Heeney is playing the best footy in the league.
It will be interesting is he can sustain it.
I’m not sure how to fact check this, so I’m just relying on my memory. Aside from his consistently good tackling numbers, I recall that Merrett was the #1 rated defensive pressure player in the competition in 2016 and was top five in 2019. The defensive stuff is definitely nothing new.
Edit: Just did a quick bit of research. Merrett had 503 total pressure acts in 2016 (#1 in the AFL) and averaged 26.6 PA per game in 2019, which ranked him fourth in the comp, behind Jack Graham, Dayne Zorko and Jack Steele.
Brownlow likely one of Bontempelli, Heeney, Daicos or Merrett this year.
Needs to add some hit outs if he really wants to give it a shake.
Long way to go they probably would be the leaders along with Gawn at this stage. So much can happen until the end of season as Nick Daicos found out last year. Crippsnwoukd be up there as well.
People in the eastern states severely underrate Caleb Serong.
The guy basically never plays a bad game and he’d have several 3 vote matches already. He’d be up there as things stand and has a strong base to be a massive chance come season’s end.
This year he’s broken their disposal record and clearance record with 17. He’s one hell of a player
Yep very good player Freo look like they have all the components to be a sting finals contender this year. Forward line is coming together and the midfield whilst it doesn’t bat deep has a very good starting 4
Also, outside of Serong’s ability to accumulate, he’s hard at the contest and uses the ball creatively.
Indeed, a very good player. Takes a bit longer for the small midfielders to get recognition. If he was 190 and producing the same results he’d attract more attention…plus the WA thing
Yeah Caleb Serong and Zac Butters are absolute jets.
Merrett averaging more goals than any other year in his career 0.8
Imagine having the confidence and skill to do that on your wrong foot…
Twice
I was at that game, 2016 year of the bans, a bunch of the top ups played that day including Crowley, we beat FC, Zach kicked a cracking goal that day, from memory it was very hot.
Sheez thats abit depressing for our future.
Go no young supporters coming through.
On the flip side of that my son plays under 9s and about a third of his team is Bombers supporters, which surprised me.
Feels like the rest are Cats and Dogs supporters.
Well renowned as one of the best kicks in the league.
But I’d say he’s the best decision maker around the contest which is coupled with great vision.
He always makes the right decision on who to handball to or when to baulk and go with the 2nd option.
He and parish have a 6th sense of where each other are around the contest.
