#7 Zerrett - could double his Crichton/Trevor Barkers by 2027

It’s not even daylight between him and our next best player.
It’s waiting for the next solar eclipse.

Iam with ya on that.
There’s times you just want your captain to hit a contest and lift the team and Merrett instead just puts out a hand.

Yep, he is trying his best. But his kicking tonight was awful

He keeps running at an angle when he has the ball before he kicks instead of running straight at the goal( does this all the time during clearances)

I actually think he’s a big part of the problem with the club.

I used to love him, but over the past 2 years I have seen a different Zac. He regularly takes the wrong option and misses targets. He is playing like a player that wants it to be all about him.

His kicking woes are hard to comprehend. Perhaps he isn’t truly focused come game time given it’s been yet another year of disappointment and no hope in sight for the club. It’s not an excuse but it may be an explanation.

I’d hold no ill will towards him if he left. He’s tried his guts out and played some amazing footy for us in mediocre sides.

Have we finally Essingtoned his kicking?

He did tremendously to last as long as he did.

He was shocking last night and nowhere when the game was on the line.

But I think the issue with his kicking is more to do with our movement (or lack of it) ahead of the ball. We never have anyone working hard to create space so our aggressive users are always working with the finest margins and it often doesn’t come off.

I first thought Martin was ACL at the start of the 2nd half when I could tell Zach was flat.

I was thinking he definitely just got the news that Martin will miss most of 2026 and realises what that means for the team success.

Wouldn’t be surprised if that rippled through the team, we are bad but nowhere near what we put up last night, I’ve said it a number of times but the delta between our good pieces of play the week before and last night was wider than the grand canyon

Long season, young team, a number of beltings and maybe the worst injury run ever seen in AFL in terms of magnitude and impact to core team members would absolutely ■■■■ on anyone

It’s that bad the injuries that opposition fans are starting to feel sorry for us

Just heard it again on the radio and see it on here all the time: I don’t blame Zach if he leaves, he deserves better.

Give it a rest, what an absolute load of crap. Loser mentality.

Zach needs to lead from the front and he’s been playing average footy for a while. Apart from our injury woes, our players would all know what it takes to be successful, they don’t live in a bubble but the fact is, they need to pay a price for success, including the leaders. If you are a leader but no-one is following, what are you really? Leaders need to inspire and lead, but we’ve lacked this for a while.

I just hope the club isn’t like our whining supporters and continues to work and recruit into an excellent environment The players we bring in this year need to be introduced to an environment where they can succeed, on their own merit surrounded by excellent leaders…

He’s given us eleven years.
Doesn’t owe this club a damn thing.
I’d dearly love to see him shaking a little kid’s hand on the dais, but that will never happen at this club.

Is it time for him to stand down as captain? have one of Caldwell or Durham as captain.

He’s not getting any younger Zac

No Zach is our captain.

However Caldwell and/or Duz needs to be our VC.

We need to get rid of that fraud, ideally from the list but the very least from the VC position.

A highly paid employee, he has nothing to whinge about, if so, trade him.

Are the media trying to push out Merret or something?

Again he will be discused on Footy Classified on wether he should go.

They can fark off.

Well, I think he should go for his own sake, his getting older, who knows how much longer he has in the league, things can change quickly with health and injuries, and I’m sure the money is nice but does he really want to become another one of those players who are really good but never actually get the Premiership in the end?

That’s why the play in the big boys league right? They want to win it all.

If he wanted out or a club was interested and the offer was good and would greatly benefit our future, I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. Such is life. I’ve never rated him as highly as some here, but he is still a great player, but, player movement happens.

He is the leader of the club though at the moment, and recently he hasn’t exactly been great. But he’s the leader, he has a responsibility and that responsibility starts at how you yourself perform. Maybe he has checked out for the year? injured? something else?

Who knows. But again, if the offer was right, and it would help us bring in more young talent that will be here for 10 years+ then I’ll take it.

I was sucked in and watched FC, albeit the first segment only.
Never again.

Sam McClure is an absolute bum sniffing grub. He was the only one pushing Merrett to leave. Lloyd & Barrett both said it shouldn’t happen.
