#7 Zerrett - could double his Crichton/Trevor Barkers by 2027

Might need to work on footy IQ and not getting injured but he certainly has some of the traits required.

Andrew ā€œPandoā€ Mcgrath

One thing I’ll give pando over the dog is that he works hard back to defend but as far as leadership goes it’s all yucky

We desperately need a leadership group that’s resilient and committed… ZM C Duz VC plus maybe another VC…? idk if you often have a younger kid as an understudy (probably not) but Archie Roberts would be touted for a future leadership role surely

I thought early days he could be a captain. Definitely a big follow me and outgoing personality that the leadership team needs. Still hasn’t grown up though and doing stupid things still

Durham also has that but it’s very thin……

Merret decides to leave I fear for the younger players. They will be thinking ā€œif the captain ain’t sticking around for the long haul why should Iā€

People underestimating the effect it could have by Merret leaving be careful what you wish for.

LOL. The fact people are suggesting Draper as an option for captain shows how absolutely ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  this club is. I wouldn’t even let the guy water my plants while I’m on vacation.

…or it shows how some people have no idea what makes a good captain more like.

Yeah that too.

Devils advocate…

As good a player as Zach is, where is the evidence he’s a good captain?

We’ve largely sucked under his leadership, he also went into bat for his mates Jake and Lav to get new contracts didn’t he? Even though Jake never showed professionalism.

Fwiw I think he’s a decent captain but I don’t know that for sure.

Well answer this - is the state of the club Zach’s fault? Would a different captain have us in a better place, all other things being equal?

Probably not, well actually very likely not. Clubs pretty much farked.

There is a lot of Merrett worship in this place, but the simple fact is that he is only captain because we have nobody better in that age demographic. Merrett trains hard, is available and is reliable, but the two things he lacks which I consider key attributes in a captain are courage and intimidation.

I have seen him take a backward step on multiple occasions this year, particularly in marking contests. He simply doesn’t put his body on the line for the team. Also, he always seems to be best mates with opposition players, this infuriates me. He like the club is the nice guy.

The only player we have that is a little different to him is Roberts. This kid has leader written all over him. He starts fights, puts his body on the line and for his age is above average. This is also a reason that I want Reid. He is a brute first of all, but also a hot head, something we lack. Someone that will get in players faces and can back it up. Reid and Caddy together would have more FIGJAM about them than all the players we have had combined for the past 2 decades.

Merrett is an excellent leader in the sense of training standards, but that’s where it ends. We need more if we are going to turn this club around.

Ohhhh boy…

You’re gonna cop it now from the 55 year old men on here who have Merrett posters on their bedroom walls that they fantasise about while they defend him on here like he is a Top 10 generational player.

I actually agree. It’s not a popular opinion, but I’ve always viewed Merrett as a very good player – just not a great one. He’d likely reach another level if he were part of a stronger side with more quality support around him.

The same Ried thats giving away multiple frees every week

What’s the alternative. Younger generation on here all pulling it over McGrath. #1 pick, all round modern guy, soft as ā– ā– ā– ā– .

He’s going to be the first player that does a Fabian Delph. Absolutely checked out.

Is it too early to give the captaincy to Duzz? Relieve Merrett and McG of the duties and see what happens
