I’m sure Raz is doing the same thing, and I’m sure we have had our players try and do similar to players from other clubs, particularly GWS players
Clubs and opposition supporters are finally starting to recognise him as an elite player. But yes can still be underrated by people. But I couldnt care less he is a absolute jet. Will be all Australian this year again.
Is also quite durable. There is no use in having great players, elite or not, who are constantly injured. Stringer, Shiel, Draper
Wouldn’t think it would have a great impact. If Zach is hard on blokes not putting in, and BJs comments are on point (re: Daniher rehab) then though they may remain friends, I can’t imagine Zach respects the dog.
Not sure Merrett would move interstate either.
That always happens in a blokes final contracted year, and at free agency time. It causes clubs to pay way overs for overrated ■■■■■■. With all due respect to Shiel, I don’t think he’s lived up anywhere near to his price tag. Merrett is more consistent and more effective than Shiel and all he Shiel contract has done is bloat his pay expectations. I don’t think Merrett is worth $900+ a year (that’s top tier stuff).
The same will be happening at Carlton due to Saad and Williams, their respective pay packets and their output, V Walsh/Mackay etc. over paying players in the medium-long term doesn’t bode well.
Yes he could have but it may not be as effective as going public is?
I think he will stay if the team keeps gelling together and improving.
I know it’s an opinion based Forum, but please. Anyone who takes any notice of Brownlow votes needs perspective.
We get crucified by the different coloured maggots week in week out yet we take notice and give a schitt about who they give their votes to?
Since they sniped Jobes Brownlow from the record books I take even less interest in how and who those ■■■■■ give their votes to.
He’s come out in the HS and stated he wants to see how the club progresses. In a way he has painted himself in a corner. If we continue to play as we are then he should stay. If he leaves and we continue to play well then he’s learnt how to lie like Daniher.
Zach’s a great player 2 Crichton medals is justification enough to pay him what he wants.
Don’t want to lose Zach but if he delivered 2 First Rounders and we finished with three First Round picks overall in a quality draft full of highly rated mids then ok. Let the Baby Bomber Rebuild go forth and procreate. Nothing better than having a dozen or so kids grow together as a single unit becoming a motivating force within their own group. Pushing each other onwards and upwards. It’s how great Premiership teams are built.
On top of that we will have millions of dollars in our warchest to grab a couple of free agency guns to provide maturity to a young squad.
The future, either way, is looking better than it has since 1992
Heath Shaw knows nothing, and if you value his rate him, then neither do you.
Heath Shaw has never struck me as a very intelligent person, couldn’t give a rats tossbag what he says.
Say we finished 16th.
Would people here rather take;
A) compo pick (pick 3)
Or
B) two first rounders (pick 10 + 15)
It feels to me that people here would rather B…
I’d rather “a”.
Me too, but people on here thinking we will get two top 10 picks for Zach are crazy.
We might get two first rounders, but they’d be something like 10 and 15, which does not compare to a pick 3
I’d take A and hope Dodo drafts someone that can form he basis of the future than go with a 10 and 15 that probably could still be anything but less likely to become elite on odds.
He goes so be it, Shiel back next year will alleviate some of the strain of Merretts departure from the midfield, ofcourse not the same but it will help.
We will get another highly touted young mid in (or 2) with the compensation we get anda we keep building (hopefully towards something)
If we were forcing a trade for Merrett it would be for a 1st in both 2021 and 2022 drafts.
I’d still take the extra top 5 pick in this year’s draft as compo. Unless it was to brisbane or port, then I’d want them to pay up and sit out a few drafts.
I doubt we will finish bottom 4, imo we will finish 12th or 13 on the ladder which will put a compo pick back to pick 7 or 8 which is no way a fair compensation for losing Zach.
I’d take A and no doubt Dodoro would too.
People saying otherwise are just morons.
If we finish 16th, it’s pick 4 as compensation for losing him via FA which could end up being pick 5 depending on where the pies finish
