New thread. New beginning for Zach.
You want success. Work with the playing group we have to ensure we have success.
I’m really looking forward to having two good wingers and our midfield back together. Will make a difference. What I think we need is another small forward and a sort of third tall
What are the chances this relationship can be repaired - between Zac and he club and between Zach and the fans?
Even many of those who support us keeping him are calling him a snake ![]()
My guess is that a couple of weeks into pre-season and it will be in the past. The media will revive it in round 1 but after that it will be mostly forgotten until he does it again next trade period.
Yeah I reckon he asks for a trade to Geelong next year
Hope so. And hoping the club had a good chat with him on Monday to gauge whether Merrett would be happy to come back.
Though I can’t really see a chance he doesn’t ask for a trade again next year. What do you think?
Let’s see if he’s less a yellow bellow black snake as he’s been recently and more the kinder carpet variety come season start.
Plenty of time to shed his skin but he’ll always be a
to me
12 months is a long long time in football, he will be forced to spend a lot of time with the players, staff, etc. Anything could happen.
The only thing Merrett could do to win me back is knock out Blake Hardwick in round 1.
Sadly, history says after a trade request gets so public, this generally goes only one way
I think a winning 2026 season will cover over the cracks, but likewise a string of bad losses will ensure that Merrett, discontent and Essendon become the news cycle.
I expect that it will all go to crap, but I hope I am wrong.
Maybe if Welsh and Little find some of that Geelong and Cotton On style magic dust for Zach he will dry his own tears
A rare bit of lucidity from this bloke.
Dan is terrific these days. Knows his stuff too.
At least other clubs will know what we expect and bring gifts
The whole “hasn’t officially asked for a trade” saga remains to be bizarre
Merrett was going to sign a 5 year $1.3m a year deal at the Hawks. Considerably more than the $1m he’s earning at Essendon. So it wasn’t just about chasing success. His manager left this bit out went he wa ranting hysterically like a a mafia spiv on Wednesday.
All it takes is for a few players to welcome him back with open arms. Not like he did them dirty. He was just looking for success and didn’t believe the team was going to get that any time soon.
He’s a greedy little farker isn’t he
