Genuinely made me laugh

I still think Merrett’s a prat for what he did in August/September.

Whatever happens here on in at least his wedded wife always has his back.

But congratulations to him and Alexandra on their marriage and I wish them well in their time as husband and wife

Sammy has a better batting average than Bradman

That’s ridiculous if true. He’s still by far our best player and has carried the team for years. Some people have short memories, when just a couple of years ago we were urging him to seek success elsewhere, because Essendon is such a basket case with no signs of success any time soon. We are chronically short of champions and we can’t afford to turn on of our own.

Congrats to Zach and Alexandra, hoping the day was all they hoped for. Life is more important than footy and hopefully they enjoy a great year with their small budding family.

I was pretty cut up re: Zach during trade season but am ok now and will cheer him on as usual, irrespective of what the future holds. I’m a little worried about our feral fan base though.

Zach made a choice to jump ship and chase a premiership with Hawthorn, while captain of EFC. Obviously that’s his right and he’s free to do what he considers is in his best interests. However, decisions have consequences… in this case the consequence is that he’s effectively ā– ā– ā– ā–  on his EFC legacy and now a large proportion of EFC fans are ambivalent, at best, towards Zach.

Even though the AFL is essentially now a corporate product, football is still a tribal, emotional game. It’s natural for fans to feel hurt / betrayed when their captain wants to abandon ship, even though I think most would understand Zach’s motivation for wanting to bail and can acknowledge his contribution to EFC.

At the end of the day, the whole episode was unsavoury and terribly managed. Zach has dug his own grave for a lot of EFC supporters. It’s not that hard to understand.

Yeah very well put. I won’t boo him, but I won’t be cheering for him either.
