He may not be our best player but I think the rest of the team will want to play for him .

Meeting with other coache(s). Shows he’s had one foot in one foot out for a long time. Probably reckons he can just switch it on and be an elite professional, which for on field you can still perform. But to lead a team you need 200% commitment and one foot in one foot out falls very short.

Just simply can not be captain if he stays, would be absolutely disastrous for our young guys to have the captain of the club be someone who consistently wants to put unearned success ahead of doing the hard work to obtain it.
As much as i have loved zach the constant testing the market at the end of each season is just so damaging to the club when you are the captain who is supposed to be leading by example and driving the standards of the playing group.
With zac seeming to be non caring about the hatred and rivalry our club has built up with hawthorn and the arm jabbing snake that sits at the head of it i can start to see why it seems our players have little passion, where is the passion to win for big milestones, the passion to beat a team who has wronged you, the passion to bury a hated rival, the passion to do everything it takes to win that one on one battle.
Zac appears to be a little to professional almost robot like in the way he speaks and trains and is prepared to go wherever to achieve success with people he hardly knows.
Our next leader just has to be someone who you would ■■■■■■■ go to war with, Jye caldwell, Sam Durham these two fit the bill perfectly and are young either of these two would be my choice.
And Welshy, its honorable that you want to hold zac to his contract, i get that we dont want to be pushovers any more and we dont have to be, we can offer to trade him anywhere but hawthorn, its just not in our best interest to keep him on the list, for the future of our club and our young players he needs to be moved on, treachery ( multiple ) from the captain of your team just cannot be something that is forgiven as it will start to eat at the very core of whatever fabric is left of this club

To offer to trade him everywhere but Hawthorn, you need to be prepared to keep him when he says no.
We’ll find out come trade period. But there’s almost no way Welsh, or anyone, is actually dead set rules out reading him.
He appears to want success, there are probably 4 or 5 clubs he would be happy to go to, if the choice is to go to adelaide or play in the 2s every week, you would think he would take the trade. This would require a strength i just dont think essendon have, but may be something they need to start the regeneration of this club
seriously though why not hawthorn they probably have the best draft hand and fringe players to satisfy us
