#7 Zerrett - Welcome to Hotel California

Except in several games mid year when he dropped his bundle over playing at half back.

The bigger issue with Merrett, is that he has consistently met with opposition clubs every offseason.

That’s a red flag of someone who constantly on the look out for a move elsewhere.

I like Bucks, but he said what he said. You can’t make a joke at somebody else’s expense and then get all sensitive when it’s repeated.

What I’m finding difficult to find words for is how I will be if I’m at a game in which Zac is wearing red and black. I’m reasonably sure I will not be especially pleased to see him. Never booed an Essendon player and not about to start, but he’s lost me.

The more and more that comes out about him the more I will be spewing if he stays now. Need a divorce. Maybe him not being in the leadership group all those years ago was actually the correct call go figure.

I hope you’re right but don’t believe you are. Welsh explicitly said he doesn’t like/believe in rebuilds.

May have been a throw away line and as a once off quite meaningless. However it adds to a pattern of behaviour over an extended period culminating in chatting to St Kilda and now Hawthorn… and who knows who else.

Seems this attitude is more a constant than a one off.

Not sure how one can effectively help lead a club to change, improve and grow. Particularly as captain with this attitude of regularly checking how green the grass is elsewhere.

Maybe that’s simply how he’s built, needs to dot his i’s, cross his t’s etc. But that ultimately detracts from the unity, and growth of the club. You need 100% commitment and nothing short to turn things around.

And Carlton

I managed to bring myself to cheer for Jake Stringer. I’ll probably come round to it.

So basically he’s Kevin Durant, minus a ring

But thinks he’s Lebron

And Port

Knowing Essendon, they’ve probably not considered at all how fans would view this turncoat if he’s still at the club next year

Imagine holding someone against their will, again, and all the while pumping this guy as your leader

That’s going to go down well. ā€œHey boys follow me. I don’t really rate any of you blokes and don’t think we will achieve success for the remainder of my careerā€

ā– ā– ā– ā–  this bloke off and do a proper rebuild for christs sake

While I’m at it, dump out parish or a further ā€œseniorā€ player who’s achieved nothing of note and never will at Essendon

It is silly season almost

I’d say 70% on here would be in favour of bottoming out and hitting the draft hard. Aren’t we reflective of the broader supporter base?

Hard to know what’s going on with successive Boards that dont / wont buy into this

The club probably reads all the ā€œPlease don’t goā€ comments on FB and IG and assumes that’s how all fans feel.

I think that’s probably right. I really hope Welsh is just posturing.

Not a great start if he pulls back from being so definitive. Really hasn’t left himself much wriggle room at all

Would never believe anything else he says….mind you that’s a recurring theme with most at the club….

I think it’s a directive from the board to be ā€œcompetitiveā€ to justify the overthrow of the previous administration

This current board is clinging on for dear life

Bottoming out? We’ve been halfway or more to the bottom for 20 years.
