The bigger issue with Merrett, is that he has consistently met with opposition clubs every offseason.
Thatās a red flag of someone who constantly on the look out for a move elsewhere.

What Iām finding difficult to find words for is how I will be if Iām at a game in which Zac is wearing red and black. Iām reasonably sure I will not be especially pleased to see him. Never booed an Essendon player and not about to start, but heās lost me.

The more and more that comes out about him the more I will be spewing if he stays now. Need a divorce. Maybe him not being in the leadership group all those years ago was actually the correct call go figure.
I hope youāre right but donāt believe you are. Welsh explicitly said he doesnāt like/believe in rebuilds.
May have been a throw away line and as a once off quite meaningless. However it adds to a pattern of behaviour over an extended period culminating in chatting to St Kilda and now Hawthornā¦ and who knows who else.
Seems this attitude is more a constant than a one off.
Not sure how one can effectively help lead a club to change, improve and grow. Particularly as captain with this attitude of regularly checking how green the grass is elsewhere.
Maybe thatās simply how heās built, needs to dot his iās, cross his tās etc. But that ultimately detracts from the unity, and growth of the club. You need 100% commitment and nothing short to turn things around.
