That’s why Hawthorn have to make it happen or they are the bad guys in what has happened. You can’t go having such heavy hitters meeting someone to have it blow up and then refuse to make an offer that gets the deal done.

all this shows is the hierarchy of the club have no ■■■■■■■ idea where they stand in the league. what a misguided delusional bunch.
This is how it will go.
Zach will do his own press conference. Probably in his Laverde and co sweats gear and request a trade to Hawthorn.
He will do it Monday at the absolute latest if hawthorn lose tomorrow night.
We will reiterate he’s not up for trade as a contracted player.
That will be the end of it and he won’t be captain next season,

The issue I’ve had with Merrett previously is the way he would give the younger players a spray on the field (and some of the leadership group) but he supported and accepted poor standards from Stringer, poor performances from Laverde and just stupid behaviour from Hind.
He didn’t apply the same standards across the board - that would have been really frustrating.

I can’t find the clip but I can remember during the back end of the year, after a loss, Merrett walking way ahead of the players when they were going back to the rooms.
I thought it was poor at the time but kind of gave him the benefit of the doubt because it would have been super frustrating.
But given all the latest information, it probably highlights the way he has been behaving behind the scenes with the playing group.

After Hannah was murdered Nick went off the rails a bit as did Jake .
No support from the captain in the slightest as far as Nick was concerned.
The post from Stringer will be a dig at Zac not support.
