I feel like we’ve learned quite a bit about Zach Merrett in the last week or so and perhaps more than we had during his previous 12 years at the club.
I don’t think its really even about him wanting out, rather it’s the way he’s gone about it.
He could absolutely have chosen to go about it with class and integrity, treating both the club and his teammates with respect and dignity (irrespective of personal differences), ensuring he didn’t unnecessarily adversely impact them on the way out, and that’s probably the Zach Merrett that everyone thought they knew.
Instead he’s chosen to blindside everyone and try and force his way out by sending a massive FU to all his teammates, coaches, club admins, staff and of course the fans.
It’s actually the most unprofessional behaviour you could ever imagine coming from someone almost universally regarded as the ‘ultimate professional’.
And it’s probably somehow also the best chance this club has had over the last 20 years to finally shake off whatever this malaise is that has permeated everything for so long.

I just can’t seeing a fan ever respecting him if he stays. Your basic supporter won’t care but yeah he’s played this out very badly for the die hard.
