#7 Zerrett - Welcome to Hotel California

My god the anger.

Zach has made a massive mistake. No doubt about it. He’s probably gone because of it.

I don’t buy into hatred of specific teams. Hawks are a mighty club. We should aspire to be like them. But Sam ■■■■■■■ Mitchell. That is a tough pill to swallow.

In saying that, Merrett is/was a ■■■■■■■ CHAMPION for us on the field. He tried his ■■■■■■■ guts out and dragged the team across the line numerous times as our only elite player.

What’s coming to light was this division behind the scenes with the playing group, but that doesn’t mean the players around him, for the most part, aren’t complete garbage and offered him nothing on the field. He’s been surrounded by spuds over and over and he’s tired of losing.

He might seemingly be taking the easy way out but the kid busted his ass for the club for over a decade. Literally our only star player in that time. Can’t ever forget that even though he’s gone full Hulk Hogan/NWO on us.

Fans claiming we’re getting a hard edge back because good players, including the captain, are walking all over the club and heading for the exit is next level hilarious. The club are defenseless to stop it. The club wants them to stay! The Club and a large group of its supporter base are a delusional, laughing stock.

Has anyone just realised they never really liked Merrett to begin with?

Has Merrett become :snake: worthy yet?

Essendon have taken the Redman and Martin posts off their Instagram.

I think the playing group will be much happier but why did it have to be our best player who turned out to be the biggest flog? Hopefully his best days are over and we can comfort ourselves knowing that Whorethorn are just getting the Hanneberry version . Let’s hope a new era reveals some special talent among the young recruits.

I’m not so sure about your read on that. I could easily believe that the poos and weed were surprised by an approach from Merrett’s management and decided that it was serious enough and sensitive enough that they have the dinner meeting at Mitchell’s house to discuss how serious Zack is about wanting to get to Hawthorn. From there Merrett’s management ask Zack how ready he is to do what’s required to make it as likely as possible to get him to the hawks and they leak that the meeting happened, they leak that Zack is just keen to win a flag, they leak that senior players (probably not even current senior players) are unhappy. But the club make it known that the board has met and made the call that Merrett cannot be traded, which at first blush sounds like meddling in list management but by the time we get to rn, and Brad, Redman, Vozzo and Martin have all made statements, it looks more like a unified front and Merrett has gone further with his management leaking that he may not attend the Crichton. And the poos and wees have had Mitchell make the only comment which was the equivalent of nothing because they have games left to play. The heat isn’t on the Hawks at all, it’s all on Merrett and his management at the moment and that’s a situation that I don’t think is necessarily a great result rn because they’re very incentivised to just get a deal done, not a good deal, just a done deal.

I think you’re right. Personally I feel that if it’s not a good (actually a very good) deal we may as well hold him to his contract. We’ve got plenty of draft picks. Cutting off our nose maybe but also refusing to rollover.

Hawthorn not the only suitor.

They’re not, but none of the other suitors (currently) hold anything that would get a deal done other than players and the trade landscape has moved away from trading players for players.

Send him to the suns, draft picks and players..

Keeping him would be like having an enemy within the ranks. That is no good for soldier morale. Remove by whatever means.

He’s been anything but.

Finally, will he and our club become ruthless?

Appreciate your feedback and thoughts.
Not to be rude, but it’s going to take more than Twitter behaviour to convince me of a ruthless club. I know it’s a start, I guess.
