#7 Zerrett - Welcome to Hotel California

Yes agree with that. Mend the bridges get back to work. Show that we’ve improved off field as Red dog says. Show that we can create an environment that turns people around and swimming in the right direction. If not then you show the rest of the league that you can pick off our players whenever you want.

Also if player x wants to sign a long term deal ie 5 years or more or has a front ended contract then you have a clause in there that if player x wants to break his contract and leave early you make him pay back 2 years of his salary.

The club didn’t necessarily want to trade him. They wanted to put him on year by year contracts because he was lazy.

The club can do whatever the ■■■■ it wants, he has 2 years to run on a contract. They should 100% trade him, and i believe they will, but Merrett can’t do anything without the clubs permission.

I wonder what today’s episode of Season 21 of Essington will have in store for us?

Watching him play ? Yes I love how he plays football. He’s awesome

But as a human? Dont warm to him.

He ain’t no Hepp,Jobe or Hirdy for example.

When is the B&F?

I was also abit taken back by him just walking off the ground in his 250th last game this year, like dont we usually chair players off?

Instead he just walked ahead and through a guard of honour

Maybe i juat looking too much into it but at the time i was like ummm what?!

I suspect he didn’t trust his team mates to carry him off without dropping him or hitting his head on the door jam

We need next generation leadership, so on one hand Mitchell has done the club a massive favour. I think Vozzo said it best about captaincy. He would bin him now from that job but they need to see how things play out before making that decision.

Whether he stays or not comes down too trade week.

With the large draft this year we already have it’s not really push comes to shove. Especially as the draft isn’t a strong one. He certainly ain’t list clogging

From day dot i was a zaccy merrett lover.
Way he went about it, how talented he was. Even through his career with us, always said we dont deserve him because he was that good.

After all of this now he has tarnished it. I want him out. He does not deserve to come back to our club at all and you know what? He was going to be one of our best players in the clubs history and again he has ruined that.

Dont know about you guys but im more pumped than Bonnie Blue about how our club is reacting, how our actual leaders are standing up and saying something, i believe we are finally going to get somewhere with this rebuild

“Um, did we just lose all our leverage?” “Oh, yeah, maybe…” “was cool though”

■■■■ this idiotic club. Go well Zach, you should’ve gone years ago

We lost pretty badly to Carlton. I don’t think there would be the mood for it.

But I also reckon that Merrett didn’t know how to get the boys together after the season and say

You know what? ■■■■ it let’s have a great mad Monday. Reckon it would have been absolutely woeful

I think Oct 2

Brad and Redman? Nic Martin who won’t kick a footy in 2026? Brad’s best year was mediocre and over a decade ago, Redman kicks a goal from 50 once a year, does his pathetic little horns routine, and resumes losing one on ones and standing in the shadows. Durham Roberts for captain and Vice or just blow the crappy Hangar up

We can’t lament a lack of leadership then kick it upon first sign of life, be it Redman or anyone else, let’s hope it’s an indication of a deeper change across the club.

Could be an interesting night…..

I just want to support my club, those within it, and those who want to stay. Everyone else is the enemy, us versus them. Let’s not stoke the division within us, if possible. Let the next 2 years pass and then re-assess at its conclusion to determine next steps. We need to see out the commitment.

For a long time this club has needed to get more C in it. More mongrel. We haven’t had much of it at the club, it’s why I wanted Harley Reid so badly. His aggression is immature at the moment, but it’s real. Roberts and Clarke have a bit.

I hope this is an opportunity for the players that are left to galvanise and adopt an us against the world type attitude. No shaking Zach’s hand next year. Ignore him and then try and hurt him - ‘fairly ’.

It’s our line in the sand time

Yeah but what does that actually mean?

Does being ruthless mean making Merrett stay or cutting him loose?
