Time will tell.
Whether he’ll be great at SANFL or WAFL?
We back him in and give him this AFL season I’m saying … and then make a call.
I think he’ll make it.
I’ve seen enough. At least he doesn’t go to ground as often now. That’s about the only thing that has improved
Was very high on Hobbs after his second year. Held hope after the injuries last year but he simply isnt good enough to play in an AFL side unless its as an in and under mid.
I still think he could do quite well at that role, but we arent going to give him that chance so imo he needs to be moved on at the end of the year.
We need pressure forwards who have some goal sense, Hobbs isnt that sort of player.
he starred this year looking like he had gone up a level but now I think gone backwards . I reckon he’s gone now . if he can’t rise in this team that has such a lack of experience and stand out more he will be gone . it’s not too late still as he would probably keep a spot because or the sheer number of injury , a bit like Perkins imo . it’s now or never for the both of them. they can’t keep this level of below average forever
Amazes me that so many fans can see it’s a clear weakness in the side but gets picked week in week out
I held out high hopes for Hobbs when he was first drafted, as a combative, inside mid beast. He started out well, but others have surpassed him and he doesn’t have high skill levels in enough areas of the game to get by. The game itself has gone past him.
Brad is doing to Hobbs what Whoosha did to Parish.
This is spot on. The game itself is no longer just a see ball get ball game. It is now a speed and skill game where you have very little time to make a decision because of the congestion around the ball.
I’m not saying Libba isn’t a better player. It was you who said Hobbs wasn’t big enough, which by definition he is.
Omitted. I would’ve omitted Perkins first. Will be interesting where he plays at VFL level!?
Deserved to be dropped. Does not have an ideal skillset for an AFL player. Short, slow, average vision, poor kick, poor mark.
Prefer Durham, Tsatas, and Calders.
Setting him up for a 27 year contract extension?

Libba has elite hands (possibly the best in the comp) and also amazing vision. He doesn’t rely on his size as Hobbs did at junior level.
He’s a great kick too, and for a left footer doesn’t mind kicking it on either side.
I’ve seen him kick really well maybe it’s pressure that is a bit of a problem
His kicking lacks penetration.
They are just too lofted and loopy.
He doesn’t lack for effort, and he certainly has the right kind of grunt, that we severely lack through every facet of the club, let alone playing list.
It’s just again, like Tsatas, why did we draft this 1 dimensional player when we had already drafted, re-contracted many of this kind of player?
2020 and 2021 were ■■■■ drafts to be taking picks in outside of the top few.
We all desperately wanted N.W.M with our pick, but standard Essendon purgatory finishes had us outside of the good picks.
Wilmot, Lohmann, Curtis. Soligo, would have been far more useful for our side, but Disco was obsessed with midfield redemption.
His kicking need work, his game awareness needs work, his fitness just isn’t enough for AFL mid yet. But he has the attitude and aggression we need.
Even with that, if a decent offer came I’d probably take it. We shouldn’t carry bad kicks.
At the time we didn’t have any idea what Durham would be -Caldwell had only joined and no great track record and our midfield depth consisted of Parish and Merrett with Stringer playing the big body mid. When Hobbs started he showed he could cut his teeth on the HFF and offer kicked goals - I don’t think this was necessarily a bad decision at the time and he slipped through the draft a bit. I do feel this one might be more development rather than a bad choice at the time.
He started out well because he was played in the midfield when he started.
Thats no longer happening and he cant play other positions.
If we arent going to play him in the middle (we arent) then itz best we move on.
