#8 Ben Hobbs

Disagree. I remember snelling. He was nothing special but I’d pick him ahead of Hobbs anytime

He’s got deficiencies, we can all agree on that. But he’s being played in a position where those deficiencies get exposed big time, it’s just poor coaching.

With Parish and Caldwell unlikely to play next round I’d love to see Hobbs get thrown a proper opportunity to play on-ball, a position he’s suited to and where he could/should be complemented by Merrett, Durham and Martin. Give him this opportunity and I’m absolutely convinced he’ll look a much better prospect.

Typical “Best available” option.

While l agree with your point, l would still prefer to see Tsatas given that opportunity.

I can understand the decision. We had just got belted for inside ball and lack of midfield depth against the Doggies.

McGrath was transitioned out of the midfield early 2022 and iirc, Shiel was out to half forward. And no one would have predicted Durham to come on like he did.

I couldn’t understand the decision to get another two inside mids in Setterfield and Tsatas the following year though

I don’t doubt his ability to win the ball in clinches
It’s his decision making
Tends to always ignore the first give and then gets himself into trouble
4th quarter, we had the overlap. Handballed to Hobbs, he should have given another one and we could have run in it another 20m
He kicked it long, to a 2 on 1
No where near our forward
Easy Gold Coast mark
He isn’t the only one, but he should know better.

I thought he was pretty good when we were able to keep the game in tight but as GC got it more on the outside he was exposed. And that’s the battle with Hobbs. All the endeavour but just doesn’t have the athletic profile.

one paced players might be ok in other sides but we have an over abundance of plodders already.

They should both be getting those opportunities.

I would say that Hobbs has had a few opportunities to show what he can do and has been found wanting. Tsatas on the other hand has not had so many chances.

Hobbs has been given plenty of games in a position he’s completely unsuited to.

They should both be getting games, primarily as on-ballers.

I won’t be able to explain this properly but I think one of his key issues is that he never seems to find any space. Loves the in and under but seems to run into traffic, or into a contest. Contrast that with Zac or Duzz who seem to be able to go in hard but also get out.

He’s not the right size, doesn’t have particularly good skills, or ability to create space. I think after tonight I’m fairly comfortable with him being moved on.

Could be an ok player but no more.

I have him ahead of Tsatas

I have them both out of the squad so that’s not saying much.

Let’s all be honest he simply isn’t good enough to take us forward. We’d be lucky to get a 4th rounder for him.

He still plays junior football. He would have had a big body as a junior footballer and would have easily got the stationery ball. Whoever picked him as a potential AFL footballer shouldn’t still have a job. He’s slow with little skill or poise. He’s never changed. People have praised his in and under work but it’s all when the ball is stationery.
Unbelievable he’s played so many AFL games.
If he stays on the list - that’s Essendon!

Has played 4x as many AFL games as Tsatas.
Like Perkins, is at the crossroads over whether he has hit a low ceiling already.

Why did our recruiter select him?

the big body midfielder we always begged for, that doesn’t even come up to bonts shoulder.
