#8 Marty Reppin' Gleeson - no more Marty Party

No.

But unfortunately his form was patchy at best, then he goes and does that. It was a cherry on top.

correct. when your in terrible form, those things stick out like sore thumbs. if merrett does it (he does, from time to time) its forgotten a week and 35 touches later

Who had a contract? Marty was out of contract and delisted then picked up on a 1 year rookie deal

I can’t speak for others but my opinion of him isn’t based on 1 play

Marty had a 2021 trigger on his contract, we delisted him giving the other clubs a chance to pick him up as a free agent. Noone did, so we now honour that final year

He met a 1 year extension trigger clause.

He shopped himself around and we were happy for him to, but no one was interested, so he took the contract he was already guaranteed from us.

We would have delisted him if he didn’t have a contract.

It doesn’t take Einstein to know that this is a make or break year for Gleeson. He deserves an opportunity to prove himself after that horrific injury.

and what was he doing in 2019 and 2020?

2019 shouldn’t be counted because he missed most the season and had no pre-season. 2020 was a strange year with COVID and clearly he still lacked confidence. This will be his final opportunity. I hope he plays well because he did show good signs before injuring himself.

He had a good month ish, last year.
Dropped off after that.
No idea how much to read into that - every defender bar Ridley and (to a lesser extent) Saad was also ■■■■■.

This guy sums up the Essendon football club over the last 10 years

seems nice on the outside, has potential, tries hard but in reality pea hearted, weak and overrated.

Calling him pea-hearted is extremely harsh. Whether he’s good enough or not is another matter entirely. Showed a lot of promise in 2014, which was his first year of senior footy, but hasn’t really kicked on. Not big enough to play on talls, not agile enough to play on smalls. He’s in that awkward in-between height and he’s not a strongly built player either. That’s his issues.

that plus the role he was suited to, the 3rd tall ish floating defender to play the intercepting role now has francis and ridley who are equal to if not miles ahead.
He also lacks composure with and without the ball, and is often one of the main culprits of just blindly turning and kicking the ball away from his area.

gone are the days you can afford to have someone who panics as much in the backline.

Would have delisted or traded years ago if he was at another club

To howls of wrath from a big chunk of Blitz.

Yes pea hearted is extremely harsh! On many occasions he has put his body on the line! Unfortunately, in the last game (I was there but have not seen video) at Metricon he either deliberately ran past the Melbourne player or was badly beaten by the bounce allowing the Melbourne player to get on his inside. You would need very good behind and front vision to decide

Goal to goal footage was just as bad as the live tv camera
