#8 Marty Reppin' Gleeson - no more Marty Party

Yeah, but they were quality team low disposals!

Gleeson should not get another game unless he we are decimated with injuries. He is not the future, and will be delisted in a year. As it should be.

No other club offered him a 2 year deal where he could have easily walked. For those with only one red and black eye and keep saying he is a good player and injuries and all that, well the fact no other club wanted him for free is telling and shows what the AFL think his worth is.

And us, well we at least recognised that it’s more valuable to keep him on a rookie list then pay him out and cut him.

I’m not sure I agree he is worth keeping around, but meh. At the very least he seems to be a decent guy, and a good influence around the club. Maybe he can help out the VFL team and assist the kids?

people know his ceiling and know his worth, he’s not very good and not best 22. he’ll be delisted at the end of this year

What are your thoughts on Cutler?

And one of those disposals was a front runner for worst disposal of the game

18/however many games played, bank on it.

Really shouldn’t be getting another game. Plenty of half backs I’d rather see play than him

I like Marty Gleeson. He gave us good service before that serious injury and he deserves a chance to get over it. Too many judges and not enough barristers on Blitz. And I don’t mean Jobe type barristers… baristas…

Deserves a chance to get over it? He did that injury in about February 2018. He’s had a year to recover and has had 2 full seasons since then.
He’s had plenty of time to get over it. His bigger problem is getting over his lack of AFL quality

The final straw for me was when he didn’t hit the ball hard in that contest in the last round.

You’ll all remember it coz he had to go and make contact with the dees player but didn’t and they goaled.

Out of contract at that stage and goes in like a fairy

l remember it well and called it on the day.
Marty has a career of two distinct halves.
Pre-injury he was tracking well, and almost leading the league in intercept marking. Post injury he is a shadow of his former self, and is hesitant, second guessing himself, when he used to be proactive. Ridley has taken his place and is simply a better player on every metric. There is no place for Marty party in the team going forward. l would much rather pump games into a kid, to see what is possible. Marty is a known quantity, and that quantity just isn’t enough anymore, neither is the quality.

A victim of a terrible injury.

Hopefully he just plays vfl all year. Is nowhere close to AFL quality anymore. Should of just paid out his deal and delisted him at seasons end

Yeah but for me he’s always been a bit of a deer in the headlights type player. Obviously the Rohan mark springs to mind also.

Yes he is lightly framed but don’t play like it.

that contest in particular probably had me more riled up than anything that occurred last year. One of the biggest pissweak efforts ive seen in a dons jumper

Alex Neal Bullen isnt built like Dustin Martin for christs sake

Done well to make a career for himself for sure, but having Marty play seniors is detrimental to the teams progression / development. And, I think he knows it. Time to move on.

Dude. 3 years is enough time to get over his injury. The problem is, he isn’t ever going to get over this one. And I’m not guessing on that either. His ankle is not good, and unfortunately for him, he’s now well past his best.

Should have been delisted

The Marty Party is over :frowning:

Would’ve but we did lose other small backs in saad and McKenna.

Even Fantasia played in defence in 2020.

So yeah lost a lot down there so he’s not bad insurance I guess

Plenty of people bagging Marty for one poor effort, but over his career he has been one of the braver players in the air on our list. One effort doesn’t redefine him.
